1.4b patch and GWX question

I bought SH3 when it first came out, just like I did ALL of the subsims in the past. However I have not played it in a couple of years and I am behind in the mods and patching. I downloaded 1.4b. Is it a comprehensive patch or must 1.1-1.3 be applied also?
As far as GWX 3.0 is concerned, is there a trick to this? Are there numerous seperate downloads involved and if tht is the case how are they combined? I know that this may seem simple to people who live and breathe mods, it is pretty confusing for the average person. And I seem to remember something called JS???(forget the exact name) that is also necessary to make the mod work. I really didn't do mods in the past because of the added complications. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have been trying to ascertain this info on my own but I can't comprehend it. I'm 60 and I appreciate the work that goes into improvements but I just can't figure it out.
Thank you.

Thank you very much. I will try that now.

As much as I could tell you, I'll just make it short.
GWX (Grey Wolves Xpansion) is the best mod for Silent Hunter III ever to be made!

Right there with you, mate.

And WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

Yolo911 03-14-09 12:59 PM

Thanks for the welcoming. When SH4 came out I read almost every post about it on this site and it convinced me to pass it up. I haven't been on this site since then. Last night I decide to dig out my SH3 disc and fire it up.
I downloaded GWX-3 but hit a bump in the road before I could install it. When I was applying the 1.4b upgrade almost immediately I received an error message:Unable to continue: sh3.msg: file missing. Do you fellows have any idea how to solve that one?

Sailor Steve 03-14-09 01:09 PM

Are you using an old original SH3 or a new one? The new ones come already patched, and adding the patch again just screws it up.

By the way, when I said I was right there with you I meant in age. I'd say you have a little over a year on me.

Yolo911 03-14-09 01:13 PM

II figured you meant age. By the way I noticed your Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club emblem. I spent my time there. Yankee Station, PIRAZ. On the USS Long Beach CGN-9.

No I have the orginal boxed version from 2005. I just installed it last night on this pc.

Sailor Steve 03-14-09 01:18 PM

Awesome! USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887). Junior apprentice radioman.

And hmm. I don't know what the problem would be then. Is it the right patch (the US DVD version)? That does make a difference. Also sometimes removing and reinstalling the game will make it work. I don't like to remember how many times I've done that.

andym 03-14-09 01:28 PM

GWX is exactly what your Mother warned you about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:har: :har: :har:

Yolo911 03-14-09 01:29 PM

Radionman 2nd Class. 1969-1973. Small world.

I will try to unistall and reinstall. If a miracle happens and I get it patched and GWX-3 in place I would like to talk to you about any additions you use to GWX-3 to make it more entertaining. I did check and it shows I am using the US version for DVD not downloads.

I use the following mods.

GWX Intergrated orders
GWX 3.0 All weather guns
GWX alternate loadscreen
Thomsens Ships V3.1
Lifeboat and debris V3b
Manos environment pro v1.1
Big blue sub skin
Andym's Ammo Mod.

Hi Yolo911:

After you get GWX3.0 up and running, you will notice that JSGME (JScones Generic Mod Enabler) is also installed. This is a great utility that allows you to easily and painlessly switch on several mods as per your likening. It looks like this:

As you can see, I use the 'Open Hatches' mod, the 'Damage' mod and the 'Lifeboats & Debris' mod - a great set of initial mods to turn on as a start. Here is a screenshot of both the 'Damage' and the 'Lifeboats & Debris' mod in action :yeah:

Stratos 03-15-09 05:05 PM
