Yea. I'm not a big supporter of giving that type of medication especially to young kids. If they're not messed up before, after becoming hooked on those chemicals they will be messed up.

Having said that I know that some people are violent almost by nature, some might have a bad childhood or something and can be 'saved' and helped to live a normal life. The ones who can't be cured, not sure what should be done about those. Maybe some kind of humane prison for the rest of their lives.

And today, some dokters and lawyers asking the quiestion for the first time, should we some of those who can commit horrible things in de future,
not put saveley in institutes to prevent this. and were they can be cured more or less.
And thats a verry delicate situation to discuss, put someone behind bars before he actually can commit a crime.
Not forget more people kill them self every day because they are desperate and a few put innocents with them in the dead, in this case the man dident die, his job wasn't finished, he was on his way to another place to kill some more with an axe.

I don't buy the anti-depressant argument Mengle. People have been committing these horrible crimes long before Prozac and such were invented.

Very delicate to say the least. If we start committing people based on what they might do that reasoning could be applied to anyone at any time and i'll bet it still wouldn't stop these killings.

The fact that a person is on behavioral medications suggests he/she had a mental health issue in the first place. Sometimes medications work, sometimes they make things worse I think.

The way we treat our most helpless (small children) is a reflection of our society. I have little enthusiasm for our future. This is not just a USA problem.

but that kind of stuf i hear all the time in Belgium, that's why i started this thread to share my sadness with people who see this from a distance, becouse childmurder is the worst thing a human can do It makes no differents if its in the USA, RUSSIA or CHINA, until it hapens not far from your city than you have a horrible feeling and deep shame.

I read that the killer had painted his face like Joker and committed this act pretty much one year after Heath Ledger's death. So I guess there is a link with pop culture and IRL murders.

Yea well, in Norway they just had a case where a cop had shot his wife and himself. In Finland an ex-cop and a former Olympic shooter shot his wife. So plenty of those cases around too.

Another police committed suicide with his wife and a manager of army arsenal shot his wife. These cases prove the double standard of the demands to take firearms from private hands.
Statisticly private owners are starting to look safer handlers of firearms than goverment employees.

Indeed. Personaly I stick to the principle of innocent before proven guilty, even if that means loosing some lives.

I don't think these cases are enough to tip the scales of violence against government officials and make them less reliable than private gun owners. Although it would be a good idea to look at how police use their weapons and try to minimize the overall gun violence, both 'legal' and illegal.

And I think you'll find that gun violence perpetrated by government employees is per capita similar to that of the general population. They're human beings just like anyone else.

I agree with you on this. One of the side effects listed on all anti-depressants is "suicidal thoughts". How about homicidal...? My Grand dad's remedy for depression was "work", a busy mind will not get depressed.
