So where did the allegation come from? Yes that's right, from the Democrats themselves.

I live in the real world. I'm aware that people in college or beyond may drink a little, smoke a little pot, whatever. I personally don't think it makes them bad people, or incapable to do the job. I appreciate honesty about it. That's what I thought Clinton's "I didn't inhale" was dumb, and both Obama and Bush's forthright comments about use of alcohol and/or drugs was refreshing, and honest, and I appreciate that from a man. I don't really know what "cheery OK" means. But I don't have a problem with them being human beings, being young once, or going through things that vaaast majority of American kids go through.

I sold a BB Gun once. Did I ever tell you guys I was an arms dealer? Sold some M-80's once. Enigma: Explosives merchant extraordinaire....

If you want to run around repeating that Obama was a drug dealer, for christs sake, it's certainly your right. We are all free to look rediculous in this country. But there is no such evidence, and it is irresponsible of you to do so, if you a daily poster, the owner of this web site, or Rush frikkin Limbaugh.

First paragraph...agreed.

Second short paragraph...by law, if you sold drugs just once, you are a dealer. In fact, if you are caught with a certain amount you are legally considered a dealer. Even if not caught in the act of dealing.

Third short paragraph....did I ever state emphatically that Obama was a drug dealer? No...sure did not. You glanced over 'probably' not only once but twice. In two separate posts. You may go back to your unfounded soapbox defense of Obama. :D

Well, actually the Clinton lawyer discussed the electability of Obama given his admission of past drug use.

Quote:

Shaheen said Obama's candor on the subject would "open the door" to further questions. "It'll be, 'When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?'" Shaheen said. "There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It's hard to overcome."
However, it was a McCain lawyer who wrote to the NYT asking them to investigate Obama's drug use and to "find his dealer".

If by referring to the Democrats raising the issue of his drug use, you must be referring to Obama himself talking about the drug use in his book, and later on the campaign trail, and you would be right. If you think it was initially leaked by opposing democrats as a tactic against Obama, well, I'd say it's polite to cover your mouth until you have you facts straight.

Thanks. And I'm making the same argument for Bush. It's not like it's political pandering. I think any time we use this stuff as making people "bad" we lie to ourselves.

You don't need to get worked up about it. :) He probably was a small time dealer.

Do you have anything with which to back this up, other than the fact that he has used cocaine?

What do you care one way or the other? If it turns out to be true are you suddenly going to start supporting George Bush?

What am I, a private detective? ;) I've read stuff that implies as much. May not be true, but in the same vein that people assume CEOs are greedy and religous people are stupid sheep, Obama made sure his friends were supplied with the same dope he used. He has that leader-mindeset.

Tchocky 01-08-09 11:22 AM

Because I find it interesting that people are making the accusation that a person has dealt drugs with (so far) absolutely no evidence. I think that's worth looking at.

Because if I accused someone of being a drug dealer, I would expect to be asked for evidence, something to back it up. The same way I can reasonably be expected to provide reasoning and evidence for most things I say.
The whole chain of statement -> explication, accusation -> foundation.

I don't care in the strictest sense of the word, I'm interested in finding out why a couple of posters are saying this, because it's a fairly serious accusation to make. The notion that someone is "probably" a dealer just because they are a user is insane.

FWIW Tchocky I agree with you, but truth and facts have never stopped the Democrats and their supporters from making similar baseless accusations against Bush. I find it revealing that now that the shoe is on the other foot how quick they are to be outraged.

If an accusation is without basis then it should be questioned. "What do you care?" implies that evidence doesn't matter. Which it should.

Onkel Neal 01-08-09 12:03 PM

Uh, ok, well, this isn't a Federal indictment, just a comment. File it away in the Bill Clinton bimbo/Bush used cocaine category and forget I said anything.

Haha, wow, I used to listen to the Flying Lizards too. I had this album, it was so whacky.

I would play it constantly and it drove my roommate nuts! After a while he came to like it, or at least, like to make fun of it.
