Making here SoS might not be a bad thing.

Years ago when I was an IT manager I gave out all of the assignments. We had remote offices around the world. Whoever was at the top of my asshat list was the one I sent to upgrade and maintain the remotes.

Maybe Barack is smarter than we think. This could actually keep her out of Washington. It's not like she could do any more damage that hasn't already been done internationally.

No Im afraid you give him too much credit.

He is mearly surrounding himself with the clintonista entorauge whom are least likely to disagree with his agenda. For one reason or another.

Honestly his appointies so far have been 90% from the clinton/carter administrations. Perhaps there was some sort of 'agreement'.

I can tell you this much, this is not the change people were looking for. Soon the cries will arise. You just wait.

Clintons anywhere near the white house is bad news.

Nah the Democrats will remove all the H's on purpose so as no one will use Obama's middle name by accident.

Keep it civil please

I didnt want to create a new thread for Obama's political appointments.

I've been impressed at the common sense decisions he's made.

I'm not necessarily sure if Hillary will make a good secstate or not, but i thought the same about condi. Regardless, getting her out of the country means she can't stir up any anti-obama sentiment in washington amongst the DNC. Good call on his part.

Keeping the same secdef will probably only be a short-term measure, that is to say I expect it will be a case of "you guys got us here, you can get us out". But it is a wise move in the sense that it means the person tasked with extracting the US from the foreign wars will already be up to speed on the situation, and can start working on it from a much better position than a newcomer to the role. I suspect if things go poorly, he will also take the fall, but nevertheless, the man could have chosen much worse.

Following on from secdef, I read somewhere that a very prominent soldier will be NSA?

Susan rice will get an interesting workout. Another person to doesnt fit perfectly into the old, peace-loving lefty mould, she has advocated the use of force to intervene in genocide. While i won't argue with the sentiment, the application of it could well be tough to gain support for. I must admit, beyond this i know little about her, and can't be sure how this appointment will go.

I dont know anything about Janet Napolitana as homeland security, well certainly not enough to comment. any takers?

I'm been surprised. I think his choices could have been far worse.

Hehe...Oh, comical.

Nothing so fun as a bunch of anti social pale skinned do nothings who spend every waking hour in Mom's basement on a message board about submarines poking fun at an intelligent young lady with a brilliant future, backed with a Stanford education and an Oxford Masters.

You. F'n. Wish. You couldn't carry Chelsea Clinton's school books, kiddies. Wise up.

Napolitano is a major mistake for head of Homeland Security. She did nothing to protect the Arizona borders and made it difficult for law enforcement to enforce the immigration laws there. It's like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse.

She left Arizona's border wide open...what makes anyone thing she is going to do anything different with the Nation's borders? She obviously got the job as political payback, since she has done nothing to actually warrent getting the job.

She is so bad that the people I know in Arizona are glad to see her gone. They say with her going to Washington that maybe now they can actually fix the State and the damage she caused there.

Calling the community at large here at subsim 'do nothings' sports an heir of elietisim and arrogance.

I think you should look into the records of some of these fine citizens before you cast stones my friend.

I love the Rude Pundit, and here's his take on it. Cleaned up for the Subsim masses, of course.

Quote:

But let's just say this as Barack Obama introduces his national security team and people huff and puff about whether they're hawks or not progressive enough or problem children or disappointing or what the f**k ever: Ultimately, the cabinet does the bidding of the president. Sure, they offer ideas and guide the departments. But they are policy implementers. Nothing less and nothing more. You have to be willing to go along with the boss to do the job, or you don't take it. And it's all a political game. If we know anything at all about Barack Obama, it's that he's one crafty m****er in the realm of politics.

If you wanted to, say, change the course of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and our strategic relationships around the globe, who's gonna do it without pissing people off? Secretary of Defense Dennis Kucinich? F**k no. You get the guys and gals who were proponents of the war in at least some way or have cozy g****n Capitol Hill relationships. If the great and glorious David Petraeus and the shiny Robert Gates are saying, "Bring the troops home," then you've defused your enemies. It ain't Clintonian triangulation, which involved embracing a watered-down version of your opponents' beliefs. It's just f'n smart. The same goes for economic policy and it will go for domestic.

Yeah, if Obama lets his hawks run the place and make him break his promises, then we can squawk. But for now, can we just take a breath and see how it all works out?

Waaaah.

I think you should take your own advice. But I also imagine you care as much about what I think as I care about what you think.

Sailor Steve 12-04-08 03:32 PM

I'm always interested in what others think. What turns me off is when rather than discuss things intelligently they go for the cheap shot. Waaa? Your comments about Chelsea are likely true, but your way of saying it was even more childish than the comments you were responding to.

But not by much.

Enigma 12-04-08 09:01 PM

Yes, let me take the high road in a sea of low roads. You are a veteran of these forums and you know where discussion gets you with a lot of people here. As if I'm supposed to go out of my way to be polite. This whole thread is based on a deep seated grotesque hatred. But only my quote was worthy of criticism.....

Sailor Steve 12-05-08 03:54 PM

Not at all. I've said the same to many on both sides when I thought it warranted, including Neal once. No, it hardly ever does any good, but I keep trying.
