I didn't know this, but i've started an italian battleship...
Ok, i'm from Italy, but this "randomness" is interesting :hmm: :up:

Duilio

Great Work VonDos!:up: Glad to see you're still turning these high quality ships out, and en masse too.:D I agree that both the Cavour and Doria class BBs are so similar, once you have completed one, the other shouldn't be too hard to kitbash - two birds with one stone so to speak.:hmm:

Also, do you have plans to work on a UK carrier or a French cruiser anytime soon?:hmm:

Madox58 11-07-08 09:49 PM

I think this will work for the triples as a start.

At a first glance, I would suggest four small adjustments:
1. The forecastle on the Duilio's and Cesare's is shorter than on the Littorio's: it should end just aft of the 90mm guns and not at the C turret;
2. As far as I remember, there were no visible anti-torpedo bulges ("controcarene" in Italian) on the Duilio's and the Cesare's; I will check this one out, anyway [EDIT: I checked that: in fact the Duilio's relied only on internal anti-torpedo protection (the so called "Cilindri Pugliese"); no external bulges];
3. The ships were somewhat lower on the water (IMO also the SH3 rendering of the Roma is a bit too high on the water);
4. The grey the Regia Marina used before the war (i. e. before camouflage of the ships) is lighter and a little bit more blue-ish (San Giorgio looks much better to me).

As for the turrets, the twin mount looks quite good to me; the triple turret instead is decidedly too big and "square". I wonder if the best solution wouldn't be to modify the twin turret in order to fit in a third barrel.

:up: "Keep up the good job, kaleun!" :cool:

One more note: the platforms of the turrets should be smaller, in order not to be wider than the turrets themselves.

Von Dos,

You are the man! I needed an Andrea Doria class battleship bad and Cavour class! Right now there's no IT BBs or Heavy Cruisers in that weight class.

:up:

(I am right now in the middle of scripting the First Battle of Sirte. I'll put them both to immediate use when you're done with them.)

1 Correct ^_^
I never thought i was able to do this ^_^ BTW this generate some little strange shadows on the hull near the modded zone.

2 Yu're right; those "controcarene" was a Roma's details; btw correct!

3 I'll check right level on the sea, if possible

4 Correct, easy!

Those guns in the images aren't the definitive; i'm waiting; Privateer is working on italian guns (see images up)

Btw, this is the new corrected version; i've added also searchlight; now i need to place a\a guns and ohers

Working on A\A.

sabretwo 11-10-08 08:58 PM

Von Dos,

When you're ready for beta testing, let me know. I finished scripting the first battle of Sirte this weekend (minus the addition of your two new BBs). Once I have your betas, I'll drop them into the mission and test it live.

The way the battle is scripted, they should get a chance to fire and maybe take a few hits.

VonDos 11-11-08 02:02 PM

While testing A\A i've modified overstructures between fore funnel and command tower (not a\a present in those images).

Is enought similar for you?

I'll return, i'm starting a vojage to Rome, a day in italian largest city!
Regards, VonDos

In fact, measuring from the aerial view, L/l ratio (Length to width) is 6.06:1; on the real thing it was 6.67:1 (original measures: 186,9:28,0). That means the hull is approximately 10% too short.

Apart from that, the ship looks really good -- and your last modifications are very well tuned.

Thumbs UP :up:
