Would it be possible for the model to be altered to be more historically acurate? Its gotta be a good basis if nothing else
|
Hi, Keltos01.
Do you have Swordfish? |
It's not that bad. No one should be seeing the elevator or the gun tub shapes, or the funnel from above from a sub anyway ;)

Afaik sword fish never had floats or it was never widely used as such
|
Oh no, there was a floatplane version. But no it was not widely used. Kinda like the Spitfire, and F4F Wildcat / Martlet had floatplane versions. Also the Zero Fighter floatplane version called the Rufe by the US Navy.
The trouble with floatplanes is the drag from the struts, and floats and the extra weight of the structures and bracing to reinforce the basic airframe to support the floats and struts. The success of the PBY Floatplanes the US Navy used, and the one floatplanes used by RAF Coastal Command made the efforts for different designs to at least be tried in that configuration for the possible potential it could prove to have. The Swordfish floatplane was used if I remember correctly like the Walrus was used. Either set on the water by the ship carrying it, or it could be catapult launched if the seas proved to rough for standard takeoff from the water. |
