I hope you didn't think that was the gist of my comments - just the opposite. No one else brought it up that I could see. ninety-nine percent of us history buffs agree with you. I just didn't see why you felt a need to get defensive about it.
Me, I can't wait to see them in action.:sunny:

I agree.
There's nothing good or bad about having nukes in a game...in the end, it's all just as crazy, whether you fire a gun in COD, down a bandit in a dogfight in Il2, or sink a merchant with precious supplies, in SH3/4.

Btw, this is about a mod...but there are commercial titles with nukes in them, like World in Conflict, or Defcon.

Privateer,

If you get the time, how about an F6F-3 or -5 Hellcat? They made their debut on August 31, 1943, and the IJN, and the IJAAF really began to suffer at the hands of U.S. fighter pilots.

A nice compliment to add to your stable along with the "Big Hog" you're working on.

:rotfl:

Laughing because that particular model was nicknamed...Privateer!:sunny:

And if you look in GWX 2.x?
Is not the Privateer included?
:hmm:

Believe me when I say I was almost against!!!
:nope:

I feared someone would use it as a way to
attack GWX.

Not sure:hmm:. I still have GWX2.0 sitting in a D/L folder. I don't know how extensive their use was in the Atlantic, but in the Pacific I've read accounts of these AC attacking Japanese shipping. Not surprising since this, along with long range patrol was their mission.

I wish we could accurately model airpower in the pacific...with dogfights...program the AI to shoot each other...can it be done???

Better yet, watch the big 4 engined birds shed their wings in a dive bombing run:arrgh!:

They would usually fly at altitudes higher than your guns could reach, and saturate the area around the sub with bombs. No smart weapons in those days except the men behind the guns, or the bomb release buttons.

The best way I can get a starter skin for the Corsair is to
cut up a stock CFS2 skin and re-UVMap to those.
Then I'll combine them to one image.

After that, anyone who wishes to modify it is more then welcome to.
Another thing I'm going to do is make several upgrade parts.
The canopy and chin breather.
That way it can appear as the different versions with one main model
by editing the eqp file.

Strange. I never see an airplane from my submarine. They've been known to hurt people and are best avoided. If they were all paper airplanes I'd never know it.;)

Madox58 06-12-08 08:52 PM

It's always going to be a matter of personnal choice
as to how we run our games.
I remember stories my Grandfather told of the Corsairs from Guadacanal
to Iwo Jima.
And he was a ground pounder.
When I pop scope?
I should see the proper aircraft.
The allied aircraft in SH4 are sorely lacking for me.
And as we now have the U-boat add-on?
Again, lacking.

kylesplanet 06-12-08 09:29 PM

My late great uncle used to tell me about the Corsairs. He was a seabee and would help build the mesh metal runways. I sure miss him, I was just a young boy when he was still alive, I would love to talk with him again.

Madox58 06-12-08 09:36 PM

I know what you mean.
My Grandfather passed away over 30 years ago.
He was a bit on the gruff side I always thought.
I know better now.

bunkerratt 06-12-08 09:51 PM

go brother ..you do some dam nice work..not to metion the bentwing bird is my all time favorite...spent many hours in flight sims with it ...i await your next master piece:rock:

Madox58 06-12-08 10:39 PM

JU-88, Ref, and Tomi
(just to name a few)
Blow me away!!!

Those guys and more can build some serious stuff!!

But I try my best.
And keep getting better.

I do use several programs to help build things.
One program will do the aircraft wings stuff.
Another is for ships hulls.
I pretty much tell them what I want?
They do the work.

Rockin Robbins 06-13-08 05:10 AM

I always loved Corsairs. I got to work on an F2G back in 1984 that was being restored. What an awesome plane that could kill its pilot several different ways before it ever left the flight deck. Seriously overpowered, seriously nose heavy, I believe it was never supposed to be dived below a certain number of degrees or it couldn't come out of the dive.

It was made for one purpose: to gain altitude quicker than any plane in history. It did that at the expense of just about every desirable flying characteristic.

Most of them were wrecked after the war when they were favorite planes for air racers.

As a submariner, though, all airplanes are evil. Even our airplanes are avoided as they have been known to attack their own submarines. Because of my radar I never have to see one, and I believe I and my crew live because we do not. Unlike the poor U-Boat crews, we need never use our anti-aircraft guns for anything more than decoration, and unless we are very unlucky, planes are not a part of our fight.

Isn't it amazing that in a submarine simulation we can mod the airplanes? The amount of flexibility Ubi gave to players is still amazing to me. It's why I play games on a PC instead of a console. It's also why game companies would rather make games for consoles. Many of them hate modding. I think modders are what make games wonderful.

@Privateer

For the texturing part, I think this might be handy. It's an template of the Corsair for IL2, it should have all the panel lines etc. on different layers.

wh1skea 06-13-08 08:42 AM

If you want custom skins for the Corsair, try the IL-2 skins either at simmerspaintshop.com or look around the skinning forum over at Ubi.

Madox58 06-14-08 07:18 PM

Thanks for all the input Guys.
I have a skin built from a stock CFS2 unit that is looking
pretty good for a starter.

I'll have another rendering useing this modified template tonite.
It impresses me!
I can't wait to see what someone who knows what they are doing
does to it.
:yep:

here's a little better view of the new skin.
Don't know where the shadow came from?
But I'll post more latter theis evening.
