Only a buffalo rifle. Best rifle is an AR-15 (if you can afford one), or if you have a big budget ($10K), a fully automatic M-16. Penetration of walls is way less than compared to a .45. However, I do keep a .45 near the bed in case I am surprised at night. You probably don't want surprise me at 3 in the morning! Just a warning! :D

My neighbours were broken into a few years ago (during the daytime). I wish I could have told the police to tell the stupid teenagers that "they were lucky they didn't climb in the other bathroom window." SKS bayonet or butt of 1864 Springfield musket to the head... or Boston Terrier teeth.

Shotguns are usually a good choice although some may be too ungainly to maneuver in tight quarters. But you can't argue about the result. Even if you miss the noise will stun the intruder. And the nice thing is that it is more difficult to miss with a shotgun than it is with a handgun.

One thing I do recommend is that if anyone keeps a shotgun for protection that they hit the range with it. Shotguns are not like big rifles and believe it or not, it IS possible to miss a human size target at 7 meters (seen it in our indoor range :yep: )

You don't want the first time you fire a shotgun to be the time you might need two shots quickly.

I am pondering a question concerning my shotgun (old Remington 12ga pump). Right now I have two pistol grips on it. Makes the recoil a bit harsh but makes it easier to maneuver. I am contemplating upgrading to a top folding stock. I have never used one before. I am not sure the folding stock will give me the stability of a fixed stock. If not, then I wonder if I am still better off with my two pistol grips?

I once owned a pistol grip shotgun. Didn't like it. As Niki alludes to, a solid butt stock makes a pretty decent weapon as well.

I don't have a habit of shooting people that simply ring the doorbell before they enter. So no worries! :D

He already planned on it. He didn't get the chance. I'd say there was a 99% chance this family would have been murdered, of course after the women had been raped first.

The armed intruder kicked in the door to a bedroom. I'd have to say you're right Subman.

Haven't you guys figured it out yet.

YEAH!!! Listen to the dingwad moderator!

j/k Tak :p

Now back to the topic.. has anyone here seen the movie/documentary "Five American Guns"?
I am a gun owner so dont think I'm one of those namby pamby anti gun weirdoes, but watching this docudrama one realizes the complete dammage that is done when one takes another human life.. even justifiably so...
I once had to pull out my .45 when someone entered my house at 2:30 in the morning.... uninvited..... The physical state you are in is not a comfortable one... turns out that it was my then next door neighbor.. a senile old lady who's grip on reality was sliding away.. she was there (at my house) to "pick up her groceries".
All I can say is "THANK GOD" I did not shoot her..
