Just seeing this one :D

Now I am setting the record straight. It was not his post, but the follow-up to it in that thread that was the issue,
I explained this in my above post. Plus, JH already mentioned that he already had a copy of SH3, and has been discussed here
we are still trying to see if UBI released a legal no cd\dvd for older releases.

Ubi has yet to release an official "NoSF" patch and I highly doubt they would waste the man-hours needed to create such a patch for an unsupported game.

I've been through every inch of Ubi's web site and FTP server and have yet to see anything offered other than the 1.4b patch, a few wallpapers, and a couple of videos that have been there for years now.

There's always the off-chance that some dedicated and sympathetic employee might rattle off a patch in his spare time but then it would have to get past Ubi's legal dept and you know how dramatic and tight-*ssed corporate lawyers can be.

As evidence suggests that there are budget versions out there both sans Starforce and the requirement to insert the DVD, logic would suggest that it's already been done, and authorised, by UBI. ;)

That sounds fine to me, as long as you have purchased it and you don't pass it on to someone else :yep:

$.02 worth

As have mentioned on some other posts I have downloaded SH3 directly from the UBI site for $20, no disk, no SF and patched to 1.4. I did this rather that battle the clean install/uninstall problems. All works great with GXX2.1.

Keep sinking the all

I have the original release with SF & since purchased a late version for under $20 here in Aust, patched to 1.4b, I have compared & found the files concerned that do not have SF!:yep: Would uploading this be legal since it is genuine UBI files?:smug: Chew on that!

Edit: btw, the new version without SF has been released by UBI, not a third party.

Errr, so that would be my post then? :hmm:

Sorry if I said anything against the rules and regs of Subsim, I just wanted to warn him of the dangers of taking a thread down that path. We've seen it too many times, with allegations of Piracy and fingers being pointed.

It was refeshing though to see all playing nicely on the topic here.

Cheers.

He just did pass it on here, so it is not fine ( talk of cracks not permitted ) . Again for earlier versions we are waiting word from UBI regarding this, hopefully we will hear something.

Talks of no cd\dvd patches are not permitted, post edited. As mentioned we are trying to get UBI to shed some light on this :yep:

Thread will stay open for the time being as there has been some good constructive
discussionn on related matters.

Sorry RDP. I was referring to not passing on his DVD for others to use since he no longer needed it, not to passing on the knowledge of that which shall not be spoken of.

In other words, buy one copy, use one copy.

ok (thanks for not having erased the whole post)

Forward Observer 05-20-08 01:36 PM

I have the original version of the game, but would like to purchase one of the patched non-Starforce disk copies of the game.

I ended up with two copies of X3 because of this also.

Does anybody have the US published UPC code for the patched, non Starforce version or other package info, so I can make sure that is what I am buying.

Thanks
