JScones - I just wanted to add my thanks you for all the hard work and effort you have done to make improvements to the SH3 Commander application. Best wishes and clear sailing. Cheers!

Question: I'm currently running SH3 Commander v3.0.0.161, have installed GWX 2.1 with the requisite GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3. All is working well. Since I will be installing SH3 Cmdr 3.1 over the top of v3.0, will I need to run GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3 again afterward?

No, but I've recently made some discoveries about the Liberty ships, such as which ones operated in which theater, and how many were lend-leased to the British, Dutch, Greeks and Russians, and how many were classified as United States Army Transports, or Ministry Of War Transports, as well as how many served as actual US Navy cargo, repair and storage ships.

It's not a big thing, but it makes a difference to at least one person (namely me).

And me, the more details the better

Yes. As installing R3.1 will replace the GWX-applied files with the stock SH3Cmdr ones (remembering SH3Cmdr is mod neutral).

For those running SH3Cmdr R3.0 and GWX2.x, the process in (hopefully) simple steps, is:

1. Rollback SH3Cmdr R3.0 (not really necessary in this case, but always good practice).

2. Install SH3Cmdr R3.1 over the top of SH3Cmdr R3.0.

3. Reinstall the GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3 files into your new SH3Cmdr installation.

Done.

If you use NYGM, then the process is the same; just replace the GWX reference in step 3 with NYGM. The necessary files form part of the full NYGM d/l.

If you use WAC or LSH3, tmk you do not need to worry at all about this.

Thank you, sir. And thanks for the continued evolution of SH3 Commander:up:

Hello,
sorry, i must be as dumb as a brick. I do not find a reference in the SH3 pdf file on that, and i have asked it before.
For an existing installation with SHCOmmander 3 you wrote the steps are:
1. Rollback SH3Cmdr R3.0 (not really necessary in this case, but always good practice).
2. Install SH3Cmdr R3.1 over the top of SH3Cmdr R3.0.
3. Reinstall the GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3 files into your new SH3Cmdr installation
ok.

Now for a new installation:
1. Install SH3, and patch.
2. Install GWX2.1. Enable mods as you like, then
3. Install SH3 Commander 3.1 (i ran the SH3Cmdr31.exe file)
(If changes in mods are made, roll back SH3 Commander 3.1. before activating/deactivating mods via your Mod enabler.)
That is what i did, and it seems to work.

But what are those GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3 files ?

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish

You need go here: http://gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk/ & click on the Download Links section. Scroll down part way and you'll see "SH3 Commander Config Files for GWX 2.1". Download the zip from one of the 2 links that are provided. Extract & place those files (except for the SHIP NAMES file: Jaesen says that the default SH3 Cmdr SHIP NAMES file is more extensive) in the SH3 Cmdr config folder & when it says "Confirm Overwrite?" say "Yes".

Hope this helps you get sorted out.:)

PS: Thanks Jaesen for all of your hard work on SH3 Cmdr.  I couldn't imagine playing SH3 without it...

You don't need to worry about this any more, the files provided for GWX 2.1 have been updated.

Thanks Jaesen for all you effort.
Sh3Cmdr 3.1 rocks!

Catfish 04-20-08 09:37 AM

Hello Murr44,
thanks, i just found it in the GWX2.1 manual pdf, and downloaded the file, thank you. However there is the next problem:

"Download from the GWX site (http://gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk) and extract the contents into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder. Refer to the readme.txt in the zip file for more detailed information. "

That is what you wrote, and what is in the manual, but somehow this does not look right - i installed it directly into the cfg folder as in the readme, so the folder structure now reads :
SH3 Commander\CFG\GWX_2.1_CFG_4_SH3Cmdr3.0 and below this folder there is again a cfg folder, and a Flotilla and U-boat folder.

I thought those folders should overwrite the CFG, Flotilla and U-boat folders directly under SH3 Commander ? Or is it ok the way i wrote it here ?

As well i wonder why the "GWX_2.1_CFG_4_SH3Cmdr3.0" refers to 3.1 ?

Thanks for your patience,
Catfish

Hi JScones

I use your 3.0 Version since two week´s. What should i say. Your programm is a masterpiece. I play GWX 2.1 with your tool together. I use most of your programm functions and i love it.
The settings for the career start are very good, very nice is the realistic crew.
The time compresssion settings are very helpful and one of the best is the malfunctions and sabotage function. The randomize u-boat crush depth is for me a highlight and i like the real ship names with your log addon.
Often i use the "set number of days spend in habour".So i can increase the days at the beginning of the war to go faster to the difficulty years after 1942. The crew management is a cool thing.

Thank you for your great work.
SH3 Commander is for me one of the best tools for Sh3.

Ok, now i must try your new version.

Yeah, thanks.
Please tell me if and how did you install it.
thanks

Rango 04-20-08 02:19 PM

Sorry, i don´t read your post. Schande über mich.

-Go into the "GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3.0" folder
-Copy Cfg, Flotilla, U-Boat
-Paste it in the Sh3 Commander Folder and overwrite the files.

Hello,
thanks all, i got it sorted now with your help.
I generally know how JSGME works, and i use it on more than one sim - this is really a gem in the sim world ! However this time i did not understand why to put it in the Commander folder rather than in the SH3 one - but i finally got it.

And i already began my career in Koenigsberg, which is so immersive with the war not yet started, but darkening the sky. In the bar there are rumours - and the bar is one thing i missed since Aces of the deep, well done !! :yep:

I have tried SH IV, which is a good sim on its own, even when it was rushed (which game isn't nowadays), but this special creepy atlantic SH3 feeling is unbeatable. I still wonder whether a Cray would be up to the job of running SH 4 in full glory -

Anyway i am sure we would need an SH IV commander :arrgh!:

Thanks a lot and greetings,
Catfish

I'm curious - is anyone using the "Start patrols at sea" option?

For the moment, I am not, because I want to see what changes has GXW 2.1 brought to harbors. When I'll get an idea, I think I'll use the start at sea option.
BTW, thanks for always improving SH3C. Great program, JS:up:
