Tested three German speechpacks using JSGME: The Spax pack, the original UBI SH4 pack and the GWX 2.0 speechpack. While all three are great improvements, none is fault-free. I get "Torpedo in the water" and "Torpedo impact" rather than "Aal inst im Wasser" and "Torpedotreffer" for instance.
The GWX 2.0 speechpack is the best bet in my opinion as it has "ALAAAAAARM!", alarm bells etc. when crashdiving.

I deleted the original SH4 speech folder and replaced it with the spaxs speech folder (which is simply the SH3 speech folder) and then added the GWX2 speech to it.

Next I deleted:
Submarine_GQ_secure_battle_stations_INT.wav
Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT.wav
Submarine_relieve_watch_INT.wav
from the main sound folder
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Sound)

Result= no more American voices at all in your U-boat campaign
downside is that the voices are German in your US campaign aswell, but since the add-on I only play U-boat so that's fine by me;)

A thought just occurred to me: what if I put both US and GWX 2.0 speechpacks into JSGME with an empty speech folder in the "Sound" folder (though this might not even be necessary), and use JSGME to switch as required??????????
Will test and post results if any.

Yep, that'll work for sure

GerritJ9 03-01-08 08:02 PM

Not quite.......... the US "Torpedo in the water" and "Torpedo impact" have disappeared but replaced by total silence. Will try again with the German SH4 speechpack- the GWX pack is apparently not completely compatible with SH4.

I 've found what's wong with the sounds in "Spaxs Speech Fix". It seems that the torpedo announcements in a US Submarine are performed by a different officer than in German U-boat. That means that the names of the german files are not the same with names of the English ones and so the sounds like "Torpedo Impact" "Firing Tube One" allthough there are in the speech pack are not working. I am in the proccess of making a small fix that hopefully will do the trick.
Nevertheless I am frustrated that the german voices weren't included in the add-on. And I am pretty sure that that's happened because the whole thing would be more than one cd....which means additional costs for Ubi ...

- Edit - Does anyone know if the german install of SH4 have the complete set of voices in german? It would be much easier to take the sounds from there....but I don't want to uninstall-reinstall just to see that the sounds are not completely ok in the german install as well

Hello, today I try, install sh4 stock in German and then I install patch "silent hunter the 4 german voices" and I copy the folder speech, later on I remove of new the game and I still install it in English with the addon in order then to replace the saved folder speech ;)

prologos 03-02-08 07:13 AM

Well I managed to make the following sounds (which didn't work with "Spax's patch" )work in German:
Torpedo in the water
Torpedo Impact
Torpedo is a dud
Torpedo Missed Sir
Firing Tube 1.....to Tube 6.
I suspect that more sounds will be revealed to be in English but those are very common..
Just enable this little mod on top of "Spax's" and it should work.

If you don't want to take any chances that in the middle of a battle you will hear an out of place English voice you should delete ".../Silent Hunter 4/Data/Sound/Speech" folder (backup first) and then install those two mods. Off course if a sound was in English, this way you should not hear it at all.

Hello !
And don`t forget the INT Soundfiles.
Here is my first try

Is there any chance to only change the voices to german for the german boats only.
I would like to keep the english boats with english voices

prologos 03-02-08 01:16 PM

At this moment the only way I can think of doing that is doing a multiple install...One with German voices and one with English. There is a little utility for that called MultiSH. You can find it in the forum. Or alterntively tou can enable/disable the German voices any time you want to play with fleetboat/u-boat respectively. Not the best way but....

Paajtor 03-02-08 03:19 PM

I posted a request for this issue, in the [WIP]SH4 Launch Program thread.

GerritJ9 03-02-08 04:17 PM

At the moment, it seems to me that the best way to get both US and German voices working in one install is by using JSGME to activate (in my case) the GWX 2.0 speechpack and the file made by Prologos when playing U-Boote and de-activating them when you want to play US subs. When using a German speechpack (Spax pack, official SH4 German speechpack or GWX 2.0 speechpack) with the Prologos files, first activate the speechpack, then activate the Prologos file. It isn't perfect, but MUCH better than having US voices on U-Boote with an occasional US voice thrown in......... until this combination is fully sorted. Hopefully, we will have a GWX 2.0-based fully working German speechpack for SH4 before long.
No need at all for a second install!

Thanks to Spaxspore, prologos and Rolf Eschke!

ATR-42 03-02-08 11:34 PM

I agree with Stabiz, thanks to the three of you!
i downloaded all three, combine them @ my desktop level by hand then installed one mod into JSGME, seems to be working just fine. I got a real kick out of the "ALLLLAAAARRRRRM!" that was great!

certainly beats them speaking English!

Rolf Eschke 03-03-08 01:27 AM

Hello !
I added

Submarine_relieve_watch_INT
Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT

from German Language Pack.

http://files.filefront.com/INT+Fix+s.../fileinfo.html

I use the JSGME to activate or deactivate the German Voices,

Rolf

Hello,
MANY THANKS for all your efforts!
I'm manually installing your fixes over the german speech files and they work just fine.
I only have a problem with the download link for the last fix.
Doeas it work for you? All I get is the filefront home page....
EDIT: the link works now!

JayW. 03-03-08 10:48 AM

I love your efforts on the german voices and sound effects. If I may, I would like to suggest something for the Relieve the Watch sound and the Battle Stations sounds. In the film, Das Boot, they annouced watch change like this, "Stand by for watch rotation", without the piping in. As for going to Battle Stations, Das Boot also showed this. They all did is annouced "Go to battle stations" over the ship's intercom and all you hear was men running on the metal decks. No Alarns or sirens. I hope it helps you.

GerritJ9 03-03-08 12:12 PM

Here's another correction, works with the GWX 2.0 pack and should also run with the Spax pack: http://files.filefront.com/Torpedo+r.../fileinfo.html

This one activates "Tube ... ready" and "Reloading tube......" ("Rohr ... feuerbereit" and "Rohr ... wird nachgeladen")

Pack is JSGME ready, just activate after activating the main speechpack.
Have fun!:D
