No other side effects that I've noticed. But if you find any, please report so I can fix!

I'm going to check this out.
But....
A bit of advise!!
Never leave the game running when doing something else!
:rotfl:
I've come back and found one of the cats sleeping on the keyboard.
Had to reboot!!
Came back and saw the cats walking across the keyboard,
which sent me into a crash dive in shallow waters.
Came back MANY times to the Death screen!
No idea what the heck happened!
:o
I sometimes think the Game watches you!!
You leave me running?
I KEEL YOU!!!

Yes... everything is fine, until your stomach sends an impulse to your brain saying "go check the kitchen for some goodies"... and thats the beggining of the disaster... :rotfl:

RN Sea Cats.

I've been editing the uboats *.zon files for some time now. I think I started this about when the first GW mod came out. I always set the HP at 2000. This is somewhat like Thomsens mod.
I did this because in stock and in gwx the death screen shows to often and that is really annoying.
With higher HP you have lot's more 'Das Boot' moments:up:

So I would say, download the mod and give it a try.

p.s. Don't forget to Backup your uboats *.zon files first.

Sniper_Fox 01-10-08 12:10 PM

sounds good, however one question... as you can tell from my signature, ive had a "das boot" moment myself in gibraltar, i saved the boat, and limped back home, finally resting in the subpen on fumes... on stock SH3:rock:

on yer mod, will i be as severly damaged and limp back home in the same manner, or will i be just as good as a brand new boat, or a wee bit damaged, capable of mounting another attack or a counter attack on the destroyers?

also... what the hell are you talking about, i leave the damn boat on its own all the time, to cook, have a shower, do laundry, i've even walked the dogs. never have i died... i just leave it on 1x compression and mostly when im heading to my patrol site, or when im just putting out or heading home. NEVER leave it when you've just finished an engagement... the boat may have signalled an SOS :ping: and you'll have either planes or a huge sh!t storm of destroyers heading for you.:damn:

also who here fights in the medeterranian? or am i the only one? lol:rotfl:

Cheers Philipp_Thomsen!

Did a little testing with your mod.
Enabled with JSGME but deletet the 7d41 folder before...

Fired up U505 single mission and blewed ballast.
The DD's layed doom on me.

The first seconds all went well, most compartments damaged or destroyed and heavy loss of crew members. Flooding begun.
But short after that - game over screen! :-? Hull integrity was still over 80%
I did the testing 2 times with same result and stock zones.cfg file.

Gammel 01-10-08 01:43 PM

Did another test run with gibraltar mission => 7c boat.
Took heavy gunfire from DD.
Result:
Not much equipment destroyed, but heavy loss of life and flooding. Hull integrity ~ 80%
Game ended with game over screen when a compartment was flooded 100%.

Would be one of the greatest breaktroughts for
the gameplay IMHO if you or maybe Sakura551
would succeed eleminating those
nasty death screen occouring when a compartment is fully flooded.:damn:

Hi Philipp_Thomsen,

Thanks for your mod. I enabled it with JSGME and tested it a bit. In Tiger's Den I full thottled towards the enemy with the scope up. Soon three destroyers start hitting me with DC's so the IXD2 started to sink while being hit time after time by the DC's. The ship was fully operational until the death screen appears at about 390 meters.

For me the ship was only stronger than usual postponing the death-screen but that I could expect.

The second mission I tried was a fatal surface attack in Russian Convoy. I sailed through about the whole convoy until the death screen appears and the ship was still operational as far as my crew was alive. As with the first test I recieved hit after hit after hit after hit. Maybe even 38cm battleshipgrenate hit my conning tower.

In fact the same experience a prolongued screen of death.

I now uninstall it as it was a nice attempt but I do not see what it should have brought me. I cannot advice it to anyone.

Philipp_Thomsen 01-10-08 03:54 PM

You people must know that are several things in game that triggers the death screen, and most of it are hardcoded. The death screen have several reasons for poping up, its not 100% relative with hull integrity. By the way you shouldn't have the hull integrity showing up for realism purposes.

I said my mod was gwx 2.0 compatible, but Im not sure about any other mods, maybe that is some incompatibility issues, as for me the mod works great and for someother people too. If you said you took several deckgun hit and sustained no equipment damage, then your damage model are edited due to something, the uboat parts must have increased armor or hitpoints.

My mod works fine aplied AFTER all other mods in a GWX 2.0 game, or GWX 1.03.

Send me a PM with more details about what happened and what mods are you using to I can figure out whats happening.

Gammel 01-10-08 05:03 PM

Equipment damage is working well with your mod here and please
don't get me wrong not honoring your modding afforts!
I'd wish more mods like yours dealing with game mechanics would appear...

But it's just about seeing the death screen a little later than in stock game - at least when taking gunfire.
I'll do some DC damage testing. So it doesnt hurts my game setup ( i do not use the gwx mod) your mod is status "enabled" on my machine.
Maybe i'll some testing with the GWX zones.cfg file...
Did i mention i like that mod enabler programm very much - not only with SH3! Great piece of software.

Maybe someday you or other skilled guys are able to eleminate those death triggers....
:ping:

Maybe it's just how I'm thinking but I confess to be a bit puzzled by this sudden/end/sudden/death editing.

Isn't one of the games points would be to try and avoid getting depth charged and blasted by warships? And not making it easier to enjoy the sub's death?

On the other hand let's say 'if' the damage results in the subs loss of bouyancy and it by chance settles around 250m. On the bottom trying to repair damage without rocking back and forth causeing more damge would be cool. But I'm not sure I'd want to break something else to get that done. Damage control imo is a rats nest as it is.

Philipp_Thomsen 01-10-08 05:46 PM

Im here to say that Im enjoying all the opinions and the feedback, and also that Im working on a update for my mod. There are some people saying the uboat is too lightly damaged by gunfire and able to sustain heavy fire for long periodes and still travel. I'll increase the damage models and flooding rates, and I'll run some tests.

Anyone volunteers for beta testing?

Also, please reply to this at the mods thread, so we can be a little more organized.
