I'd love to try the other GNB. The one with the Bismarck would be nice to try.:yep:

Does anybody have any screen shots of Silent Service?:hmm:

NefariousKoel 12-02-07 12:42 AM

I had Silent Service, Gunship, Pirates!, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Red Storm Rising, Airborne Ranger, F-15 and probably a couple more I forgot about on the C64. I played the hell outta all of them.

I loved F-15! The triangle jets! :rotfl: Still, pretty cool for its time.

TF1942, Pacific Air War, European Air War, B17 I & II, Silent Service I & II, Gunship & Gunship 2000, Pirates!, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Red Storm Rising, Airborne Ranger, F-15 Strike Eagle I & II and I'm sure a few more I'm forget'n. Those were the days! :D

As Torplexed was point'n out the night battles were awsome in TF1942. The campain and mission generator made the game. I'd love to see a modern version of TF1942. Maybe use the SHIV engine? :hmm: Or if someone could make a mission editor or random generator for Battlestations Midway. I'm not sure why Eidos didn't do that...it really limits the replay value of the game. :-?

D'oh, I'm pretty sure I never played TF1942. Are there anymore screen shots of it? It sounds like it was pretty close to Great Naval Battles 2.

I'll look around for some shots of GNB2.

Did anyone ever play Darklands an RPG by Microprose. I still play it now.

It is set in 15th century Germany.

I liked Mechwarrior 3. Granted, I can remember playing Pirates! and RSR back in the late 80's/early 90's on the Commodore 64. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the original Falcon 4.0.

Microprose

I still play M1 Tank platoon 2 !
(Useing DGVoodoo's glide converter for the graphics)

Also had SS2, TF1942, M1TP, F15, etc.
Best wargames going then.

Cool! This submarine game actually has a lot of details, even if the graphics are soooo 80's

OK OK!

INTRO(BTW, that's the last type II in the world behind him, the Vesikko;))

-In the 80s the more mature players started to want a more realistic war simulations.
-Their Knight on a white horse was the legendary game developer, Microprose, that was founded by Sid Meier and Bill Stealey in 1982.
-Microprose became known from it's realistic simulations like the Submarine simulator Silent Service.

Silent Service

-The most famous wargame from Microprose is definetly Silent Service.
-Silent Service wasnt that stunning graphic-wise, but it got the player hooked for it's tactical gameplay.
-In Silent Service, the player was in control of an US submarine in the Pacific during the WWII and was tasked to sink Japanese ships.
-The player could plan his attacks from the beginning to the end.
-Especially, the sounds dragged the player to the world of underwater warfare.

F-19 Stealth Fighter

-In 1987, Microprose released one of the best combat flight simulators of the 80s.
-In Stealth Fighter, the player flew a fictive US stealth plane completing various missions during cold war in Europe and in the Middle east.
-F-19 became the new standard for it's realism and it's advanced AI.

Cant be arsed to translate the AR part. :D
