I think I'll make it my 2008 New Year's resolution to actually finish the 1/72 VIIC R/C kit that I started ordering the parts for in June 2006.

One nice thing at least... I see the parts and radio I have are still among the latest and greatest. At least my stuff isn't obsolete yet.

Use to be that it was cheaper too... came with snorkel and sans net cutter.

Once you finish that one, you can go hunt down their 1/72 Flower class Corvette.
What I'd really like to find is a River Class. I'd like to do it up like HMCS Saint John, the boat my grandfather commanded when he sunk U-247, the U-boat I'm building now.
Here's a link to a VIIC that I really like:

Unfortunately I don't know if one was ever done. Certainly not in that large a scale.

Well, there is a smaller one:

Mein Gott it's beautiful!

Think you may well have started a bit of a craze off here, have already been checking for supplies of Revell submarine kits, 1/125 U99 would appear to be about it, but seriously contemplating though was pretty dire at modelling in my youth, ah well, will have improved with maturity like a good wine  or perhaps like a good cheese, will stink even worse ;)

Indiana_Jones 10-16-07 04:58 AM

lol damn it, now you've got me wanting to buy another model!

But I have no space at my current flat to do so.

Not to mention I still have a Chevy Lumina (which I'm basing on Tom Cruise's car in 'Days of thunder') and a 1/350th scale Yamato to finish!

How new is the 1/72nd kit? as I havn't seen it here down under :arrgh!:

Hi, my brother gave me this kit several months ago, my son is helping me with it, he a perfectionist and his kits are awsome, but as you can see, we have a way to go yet:

Probably a year or so before it's finished!:yep:

The VIIC kit has been around awhile... I bought mine a year and a half ago... and it had been around awhile when I bought it! This particular kit you don't see too often in hobby shops. I had to order mine. The 1/72 Gato is a more recent model.

There are two versions of it, an early war VIIC/B and a later war VIIC/41 with snorkel and atlantik bow.

Revell AG/Germany 1/72 U-Boat Type VIIC U552

Revell AG/Germany 1/72 U-Boat Type VIIC/41 Atlantic Version

When I bought mine, the VIIC U552 was actually more expensive than the VIIC/41 ($60.99 vs. $48.99 US). I see now they've adjusted the price and both are selling for $58.99 US, so I guess now it's just a matter of taste.

Revell AG/Germany 1/72 Gato Class Submarine
I don't particularly understand why the Gato is more expensive ($74.99 US) newer maybe?

Not cheap, but the best way to give that completed model a 'professional' finish :yep:

Tis not too bad
The torp loading is £15.95

Czechmaster do a torp loading kit too with PE plus 3 crewmembers
Only 5.70 plus vat

Not sure what the PE looks like though

Czechmaster do a lot of 1/72 stuff
Mines
Harbour cranes
Harbour personnel

All you need for that diarama

AND

If you fancy a bit of a challange
Turn your VIIC into a VIID
Or do a second
LMAO

Special Navy 1/72 Type VIID U-Boat Minelayer Conversion Set(Reference #SN72005)

The conversion set contains injected hull and deck parts, a resin-cast mine compartment, photo-etched parts and decals for three different Kriegsmarine Type VIIDs. Designed to be used with the Revell Type VIIC kit (NOT the "Atlantic" version).

Price: £12.98 (Excluding: VAT at 17.5%)
