In the middle of attacking a convoy off Spain, 1 Large Cargo sunk, 2 damaged. Still engaged!:arrgh!:

mstgnymike 07-31-07 10:44 PM

nice how big is the convoy?

bookworm_020 07-31-07 11:47 PM

12 to 15 ships with four escorts. With the lead escort a town class I was able to sneek past wihout a problem. It's the 2 black swan's on the flanks I have to be careful of.

I hope to get back to the game tomorrow night. I just have to see how I go time wise. There are a couple of pryo ammo ships and a damaged whale factory ship I want to knock off. Will leave the small fry for you!:arrgh!:

Further to the above, sea state is foul and decide to submerge to 25 metres for a few hours and let my sound man earn his money. After a while he picks up three medium speed merchants that are closing. Plot an intercept and discover a large merchant followed by two small freighters all belonging to France. Doesn't take much to decide which ship is going to get my penultimate torp. Fire my torp at 450m and watch it impact its bow area. Large merchant slows a couple of knots and starts to settle by the bow. Meanwhile they have started zig-zagging and I decide which of the small freighters is going to get my last torp. Fire at a range of 850m but it turns away soon after firing and I miss. Nevermind the large merchant is going down and my tonnage total has gone up to 29,000 GRT. Now plotting a course for home.

Kptlt. Johan Sebastian Balz sits at an outside table of Las Brujas del Mar, watching the sunset and eating fried sardines and drinking wine. He's working on his song: Meet Me in Balzimore you Hoochie Woochie :smug:

Just left Kiel on my 4th patrol with the U-46 after a night of wooze and booze we are heading to the Rockall Banks to enjoy some "Happy Times" if the weather holds. If we don't shoot off all of our fish we'll pay a visit to Loch Ewe or Scapa Flow to see if there is anything worth sinking. And I'm now the leading ace with 31,832 of tonnage sunk (all mechants for now).TAKE THAT PRIEN:arrgh!: !!!

I am currently in BF 15 on my second tour facing the largest convoy I have ever seen in GWX, large modern tankers/large merchants/whale tankers/ etc. Nice, but there are hurricane winds and sea state so surface attack is impossible, can't use the deck gun either of course. Submerged attack the only option. However being in a VIIB with limited torpedos and only one yes 1! black swan escort to face, the frustration is incredible. Oh for a IXb.............

U-53 Left Cadiz on the last day of April 1940. Balz reported the sinking of a small merchant near Tarifa light on May Day and an attack br aircraft shortly after. He forgot to take with him the napkin on which he was working on his song.

Stealth Hunter 08-05-07 07:15 AM

Going out on my 54th patrol. I've used SH3 Commander to change my patrol area to the English Channel (paradise for some, hell on earth for others).

U442

U442 on fourth patrol from St. Nazaire. 9/12/42 pursuing northbound convoy square AM49. At flank speed positioned boat in ideal position ahead of convoy track. At 60 m waited for approach of targets. Sharp zig put convoy off port beam by 1700. Pursued at top speed and periscope depth. Able to hit three large CV from 3000m, sunk two Black Swan escorts with acoustic torpedoes. But not the third. While reloading tubes at 100m sunk with all hands by direct hit to conning tower during heavy dc barrage. Damn. (The real U442 OL. Joachim Hesse went down in CG82 on 2/12/43. She was a victim of an aircraft attack, on her second war patrol after sinking 4 ships for 25417 GRT.)

Ahoy,sewer pipe sailors,SHIII

Not meaning to corrupt, just saying dunka.
We lost both scopes,in a PD engagement,& there is a tender near, but we were ordered to patrol far NW. 50% fish left, but coming to 30ft. to get on the bridge,to send TBT data to the TDC,&Position Keeper, can alert DDs,& put holes in the hull. Also makes Convoy attacks kinda hairy.:p  Done two assaults that way,not wanting to push our luck.
