Leo will answer this when he gets back I guess. He's in hospital right now, and will be there for some time to come.
I think when Leo returns he will be all over this forum in no time, so just wait and see..............

Cool! Brilliant!

SteveW1 07-16-07 05:43 AM

Fantastic now I will know where all the pesky planes are coming from so I know to avoid them

finaly !!! thanks allot

Haddock 07-17-07 10:55 AM

hi all

at first, sorry for my bad english, my german is better ( i think :D )

that's really a great mod. thanks a lot.
but i have two questions, and i don't now how to explain.
but it seems that rockin robbins has the same problems:

"I've used it and it revolutionizes the game entirely. No more wondering where that plane came from! I do have two questions: It would be great to know what all the abbreviations mean. Is that a question? No, but THAT was.

Secondly, what was the effective range of operations for Japanese aircraft? I'd love to draw a circle of operations around each airbase so I can know in general where to fear and where to rampage. Or perhaps you could add the circles in a later release."

that's exactly what i mean, can anyone help?

thanks, haddock

As mentioned, Leovampire is in the hospital right now, maybe he'll be allowed to go home in the coming week, and he'll be answering all your questions.

For now, all I can say is LAB, MAB and SAB means Large Air Base, Medium Air Base, Small Air Base. I think the genaral range of the airfields is 1700Nm, but I'm not entirely sure.

Hope it helps,

Beautiful! Really makes the game map a beauty to behold. The diagonal line of defensive Jap airbases across the central south pacific islands that are like a wall facing Pearl - are particularly impressive.

I too would like to see circles that depict the Jap aircraft search area radius. But that's possibly something to put on a pulldown map, along with shipping lanes lines.

I´m trying to install this mod but i don´t get any airfields on the map. Does anyone know what to do?
Not sure if i had the game off when installing for the first time so I tried to deactivate and activate again when i´m in port but still no airfields.

Willdo, appriciate your concern

BTW Just got a Pm, he'll be back home end of the week or weekend. He'll probably be all over the boards in no time and answer all questions people might have. :yep:

Old Dog 07-19-07 10:15 PM

Glad to hear it Bando. "The hospital" is a very dangerous place according to my wife who is a Registered Nurse with ten years experience in Coronary Care.
Tell him to get some rest first and then get "all over the boards" when he's recovered from being in the hospital.

I think this was next on "Leo's" to do list ;). first let him get home and then...I am sure he will kick ass like he does :p

@Leo, all the best, and a quick return to SS, we miss you man!:sunny:

Hi everyone I'm home now!!!

Thank you thank you thank you for all the suport and concern you have shown
and the nice private messages from Redwine and Bando as well!

I truly didn't expect it but I guess this comunity is a lot more than just a web site for MOD's and discutions about the SUB SiM's / Games.

Glad I still have a heart to feel the warmth you all have shown in your concern.

okay Rockenrobin to answer your question

The range of the Airbases is set in 2 ways. One the max range setting you have in your Airstrike file with is located in Data/CFG

and the line looks like this:

Maximum Aircraft Range=1500 ;[>0] in kilometers

As you can see I have mine set at 1500KM
and none of the JAP or US planes have a range larger than that in their CFG files.
and that you can find in DATA/AIR then click on the plane file you want to adjust
then open the CFG file with a note pad program and adjust the :

MaxRadius=1000 ;1500

Line. This is what I have set for maximum on the H8K or as I call it the hunter killer series like in terminator because they attack from a good distance and drop a lot of bombs.

So 1500km is equal to 809.9 NM using your compus or you can go to this web site and get all the conversions you want with the lists to the right:

http://www.militaryfactory.com/conve...kilometers.asp

I hope this answers your question okay?!

leovampire 07-20-07 05:20 PM

Lagger I have to admit I cheated when it came

To the 2D images for the Airbases. What I did was go through all the DDS files in the locations folder and then found Midway and then converted the file, using the DDS converter, then broke it up into differn't size pices to make up the Small, Normal and Large Airbases. Then I found the flags in the game files and resized them and placed them into the new airbase 2D images. Then with Captain Cox's help he resized them for me and made the back ground transparent or it comes out black when you put them back into DDS form.

He gave me the link to a free program to do this but to save time for me having to learn how to do this he did it for me being the master Modder he is when it comes to DDS LOL!

So I guess you can do the same thing with one of the 3D images. Find the one that would most look like an airbase and then go from there!

When you open the JAPAirbase file using the mission editor you then have to go to tools and click on Map Location edit mode. Find one of the locations that I used for the 2D airport images after you zoom in of course because at first all you will see is big red Airplanes as it was the only way to make them show up in game at a proper size.
Anyways there is a spot in each location for both a 2D image as well as a
3D image in the same properties file for each location.
You just find the file you created and tell it to use that for a 3D image and save it.

Now when you save the entire file you have to save it as a scripted layer because you have 2 differn't types of things on the map both a 2D image and or 3D image as well as an operable Airbase.

I hope this helps to explain so much more or what I did and how I did it as well!?

leovampire 07-20-07 06:10 PM

About a request for range rings

It really isn't a feasable thing to do for several reasons.

One not everyone has the same settings for their planes max range and max range for the Airstrike file. So what ever I did might be okay for one guy but off beat for the next. Besides you have to set and test things over and over again in the file using the Mission editor then test it in game because one never looks like the other in sizes. For example if you open the JAP or US Airbase file that I did in the mission editor you will find the RED GREEN AND BLUE Plane symbols take up almost the entire area map until you zoom in. Then you have to set the sizes for each 2D image as well then save all of it and see what it looks like in the game VS the actual location you are working with.

Not an easy task and like most things it is a trial and error set up and seeing you have to be in base to make changes it suks when your trying to play the game too LOL!

But while I was in the hospital I came up with an idea to make it a little better and will release a new VS very soon! You will have radio messages from SUB command telling you a new JAP airbase has showed up and where it is located. As well as having messages telling you when to change your base of operations and where to go to refit.

Plus many adjustments in times of airport change overs and new locations because as you guy mentioned in a thread the solomons just isn't right so I am making New Guinea to reflect airbase's showing up when we get the anouncement that Australia plans to kick the Japs out of there once they landed. So first Manokwari then Raboul shows up when the major air engagment starts with british forces then one by one the solomons until we get the anouncment that we lost Guadal Canal then that one shows up.
Also I have actualy added Truk Island with it's own 2D and 3D port with ships and patrols for the port and search lights and the Airbase is there as well with it of course 2D only. So now someone can MOD shipments to and from there like our big maps show.
And 3 new airbases 1 for the Alueutian's after they take that during the battle for midway and yes it changes back to US after they give up the location.
Then a new airbase for Hong Kong and the upper part of the Yellow sea because they did have them in those locations for real.
