:nope::damn:

2 days after a complete reinstall... it does the same thing again.
Am pondering what could have happened in these two days. The only thing I can think of is that I have drives defragmenting when the screensaver comes on... could the defrag corrupt the safe game files?
:hmm:

Dayum... Be gone foul hat!!!

I turn the radar off before i save , no contacts , on the surface in 1TC , outside views . I just use a single name as a save name , Sober for example . I did a test and had a contact while on the surface and sure enough , CTD . Reloaded the same save and was able to continue then resaved when no contacts were around and continued my career . Before you uninstalled SH4 did you delete any mods by uninstalling from the JSGME then delete the SH4 folder that appears in your My Documents folder then uninstalled SH4 then reinstalled SH4 . Have you added mods while in patrol . What are the mods you have . What is your computer specs etc etc etc .

Saintaw 07-09-07 03:47 AM

Cheers Sober,

I did a clean uninstall/reinstall (including the files in the 'My document' folders). I also upgraded to the latest omega drivers... and disabled my anti-virus.
Didn't install mods while at sea, and am currently running with: Trigger Maru, the CBS news thingabob and the 'Silent service' one recommended ont he Trigger maru post. All have been installed with JSGME.

From memory, my system specs are:
AMD 3200
ATI X800 pro (AGP)
2 Gb ram
SB audigy 4
Sata raid 4*240GB
...

I could post a Dxdiag when I get home if it helps.
I'm musing over the fact that I have .NET 2.0 running on my system (can't do without it... job related)... but I doubt it's that since the files only get corrupted over time.

(During the 1st days I was even able to load saves where I was underwater in the midst of a Kongo BB convoy...)

THE_MASK 07-09-07 06:00 AM

I have audigy sound card and the updated audigy drivers give me no end of trouble . The ones microsucks try to give you on there update site crash my computer . The only ones that work for me are the original ones that come with the audigy card . I also go into the creative program folder and delete the stupid load up thing . I have a similar system so i cannot see how this would affect it . Try a diffrent mod maybe , RFB and diffrent mods to the one you are using . Dont save with contacts . See how that goes maybe .

Just saw this, hope you get it up and running, Sober has some good suggestions.

I rolled back to some Oct 06 drivers for my Audigy4, it seems to work so far. I noticed one difference: the "Save replay" checkbox wasn't greyed out as it usualy was before... hmmm :hmm:

More testing tomorrow!

Edit: Begone now, foul hat!!!

I notice that your post count is stuck on 164 , so i would say that you are stuck with the bonnet forever :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:shifty: Will be stuck with social obligations this evening... of course, just when i thought I had this solved...

With all them weird avatars, I'm going to start thinking this website/forum owner is well...

PS: Anyone know why the "save replay" thingie would have been greyed out?

THE_MASK 07-10-07 04:55 AM

I have never needed the replay thingy .

ReallyDedPoet 07-10-07 06:42 AM

Same here as far as the replay thing, has never been greyed out.

UPDATE:

Returning from my social obligation (albeit a bit drunk, I'll admit to that!)... I decided to go for a quick run before heading for the bunk... load up a save I had done right at the patrol start... fiddle a bit with the sub and decide to save and call it a day. "Save replay" option greyed out again, unlike the day before... I suspect this one will lead to a crash when loading.

the only good news so far is that I got rid of the bonnet...

*hums 'D...I...S....C...O...'*

Errrrm, nevermind :D

Yes, it's irritating me as well (the bug, not so much the hat issue)... I see no difference between the parameters of yesterday and two days ago. I am thinking that maybe "it doesn't" like me loading games while in patrol, looks like It works only when I load a game while in the "briefing room"...

Would be helpfull if we could get some info from the devs regarding the grayed out "save replay" thingabob...

ReallyDedPoet 07-11-07 09:29 AM

This guy, wonder if you sent him a PM?

Quite possible if it gets interrupted in the middle of it (power loss etc.).

The only time you should need to defrag a drive is just before the installation of a large program or after a few days/weeks of heavy use with a lot of data changes / addittions.

Saintaw 07-11-07 10:03 AM

Thanks RDP, sent the man a pm :)

SteamWake,
I'm working with very large video files daily, hence my need for continuous defrags... bar from putting that particular folder as 'read only', I have no idea on how to get the defrag software to skip a particular folder.

I'll try mounting SH4 on a separate drive during the upcoming week end.

Cheers!
