I'm quite surprised actually, you are the first one that I can recall that has even reacted to my name....

I can only hope you will treasure that collection and someday donate it to a library for all to read. Under supervised conditions of course not for checkout.

That way they can be enjoyed by others as you have.

Hm, well I have more than one of some books. Some of my books are quite old too...I think the oldest was printed in 1941. Oh, and the swedish libraries has withdrawn every Biggles novels 'cause some could find content in some of the books that might be seen as "rasistic". I heard this is pretty much the case in Britain too, since, for example, the germans was sometimes called "The Hun"....hm....well, the books was written between 1932-1968 so is that wierd in anyway?
Well, it's not really funny, and they don't print the books anymore, which makes me even prouder over my collection.:smug:

TheBrauerHour 06-28-07 02:04 PM

What is sad:

I saw that poster, and instantly the most annoying soundtrack of any movie I have ever seen came rushing back into my head. Oh god and the sound of the German weapon as well. I can't believe I still remember that movie... :nope:

FIREWALL 06-28-07 02:21 PM

Hi Biggles :D

And proud you should be of that collection. :yep:

It's a sad day when books that have brought so much enjoyment to so many is considered inapropiate by so few.

To Edit or outright ban certain books short change future generations.

And I don't classify these books as hatefull and bigoted.

They were written when the times were different.

Of course this is IMHO.:D

Not banned over here

See : http://www.waterstones.com/waterston...=17&Image1.y=8

I grew up reading Biggles and I think they are brilliant:up:

Biggles 06-28-07 02:29 PM

And the books was written for kids, by an old R.A.F flier, which made two things certain:

1. They were easy to understand and brought many boys into the world of flying (including me:D )

2. They were filled with interesting and, above all, true facts about aviation. Much of the stuff I've read about WWI aviation had I already read in the first Biggles novels.

Even tho my thread has drifted from trying to watch "Das BOOT " in peace I'm glad it's about books.

I collect discarded HB books and restore them and add to my collection.

Over 3,000 to the best of my memory. I don't use any dewey system I just know where each ones at if someone asks if I have it.

My wife worries if I get "KONKED" on the head . What then ?:p
