That means that several sigs that size is going to start costing them.

Other people in remote areas (including my self until recently) operate 56k modems. 2.2mb will take 5 or 6 mins to download. It becomes a real nightmare if there are several images that size.

Ahh, but why have none at all, when with a little coperation from everyone you can have lots of nice (but small) sigs. :D

Thought there is a NEG side on it
Modders have their Download links placed upon their Signatures so if you disable it.you cant see modders links so.

It's a little tall. 120 is the limit. The 10% rule is for existing signatures only. Your's is new, and therefore not applicable with this regulation.

Will do something about that later in the day...:yep:

Why are these options not more feasable:

Keep a stickied thread with a hosts.txt file. People with large signatures are required to update the thread with a post, giving the location of the picture host. Modify the hosts file, delete the post. People can copy 'n paste the text into their c:/windows/hosts.txt file to block the hosting domains.

Uncheck "show signatures" and "show avatars" in the control panel.

Turn off images in your browser. This is partially why I use Firefox, Galeon, Epiphany, and Konquerer. Use one browser for surfing, another browser for functionality.
-------------------------------------

I sympathize with the people under a quota, but having a "colorful" forum goes a long way to making it attractive. I don't normally keep a signature just because I'm cool like that -- I know there's poor bastards in Australia under Bigpond that get hosed per gigabyte. Still, I like seeing some of the signatures. If I had to deal with a quota, I would be using the "block images" functionality in most Gecko browsers. Firefox makes it very easy to withhold images until you press the toolbar icon to "show images on this page". If I was really strapped (dialup *and* quota), I'd be using Lynx (text-only browser).

It just seems like there is a superior way of handling the issue, although bombing this thread with all my animated .gifs probably isn't it. :)

This completely blocks entire domains and is not a good idea for various reasons.

Only works if youīre logged in, visitors would still be "bombarded" with oversized sigs. Plus, when you disable "show signatures" you no longer see the links to sites or mods some people put in their sigs.

That, for example, blocks emoticons as well, which could change the meanings of sentences. If you mean that people selectively block certain oversized sigs, that would work in theory, but itīs far more "customer friendly" to attack the problem at the root.

VipertheSniper 06-11-07 04:38 PM

wow, if I didn't check this section once in a while I wouldn't have noticed this at all, just changed my sig.

VipertheSniper 06-11-07 04:39 PM

WTF??? From Navy Dude to this avatar ARGHH someone please shoot me

EDIT: Ohhh much better now, is the post 179 something special? One wild night in Bangkok, what is that about?

GakunGak 06-11-07 04:41 PM

How's mine? [again?]

Reaves 06-12-07 12:05 AM

Done but my ensign looks really small.

Elite Hunter: Your sig is just too big. I don't mind animations but movies? :hmm: Nice but at work it takes a long time to load, even on ADSL 250...

Fish 06-12-07 10:10 AM

Is there a easy way to minimize a pic?

What exactly do you mean?

Resize or compress?

You can use a free image suite (i.e Infran view or GIMP) to resize your image. You can do this by setting your own pixel dimensions or by manually dragging corners. Sometimes, cropping maybe your best choice as if you just resize you may experience some distortion/warping of the original.

To compress your JPG, you can use the same programs and when choosing 'save as jpg' set your compression percentage before saving. Usually 70-80% will still keep the image sharp and without pixelation.

its not dangerous situation mate,
its a bit rude to fire foul language in a different language at others

and I know what he said, I work in tourism armed with lots of dictionaries.

I know some people are fond of their sigs...but a sig of 2 MB is a pain for 56 K users and other slow internet users, or people that have limited bandwitch.

thats all mate nothing to worry about.

I have removed the off topic items in this discussion. Make your own threads in which to cry like small children.

Onkel Neal 06-14-07 05:23 PM

Guys, we have to set some baselines for sig sizes, otherwise they get bigger and bigger.... kind of like my Mastercard bill.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Neal
