Nope.. I wish I could solve that problem :hmm:

It is possible to re-uv map the textures so that there are two texture panels, one for each side of the sub. But we'd need someone who can do this.

That would mean even more work :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Am I stupid or I'm the only one who can't get this skin to work?

As I understood, this is the high resolution skin for Balao. And I have the Balao in game, but after enabling the mod (1st link in this thread), I still use the old original skin (as I can see game uses NSS_Balao_T01_lr.dds and NSS_Balao_T02_lr.dds if I'm not mistaken). And I haven't see anywhere in the game where I could set my sub to use low resolution skin or a high one...

Is this mod not automatic then? Do I have to change something manually?

---

never mind, I've just named the new skin files in the same way as the old ones...

The NSS_Balao_T01_lr.dds are the low-res files and NSS_Balao_T01.dds the hi-res version. It should automaticly work when enabled with JGSME.

The problem be in the options menu. Did you enable "use normal textures" ?

Haven't found that setting anywhere... Are you talking about Options > Graphic settings > Texture Quality High ?

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/4...ityhighft5.jpg

As you can see, mine isn't checked... And if THIS is the cause of the problem, then maybe you should state in your README about this (I'm not complaining, it's just for the future and to make it more userfriendly)

Since this threads back alive, any ETA on the next skins?
Been looking forward to the new salmon.

No that one is for damage models.. I mean the "ship normal maps" option in the options menu.

It was stated in the first readme.. But I checked it and it's gone in the last one.
Strange? But I will put it back in there. Thanks

I am struggling a bit with the Salmon. It's 95% ready.
But I have one big problem with it. I cannot get the bow planes blue/grey.
This part of the texture is used on several parts of the boat.
When I change the color to grey.. Parts of the rudder, screws and bottom of the ship will turn grey to. And I realy don't like the planes to be so dark.

But for now I think I will release it like this.

CaptainCox 05-18-07 01:30 AM

Have you pinpointed the "exact" location of the bow-planes in the texture. I had huge probs when doing the "RedFin" I remember. Finally I used the "checker board" trick to exactly locate the area.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...40&postcount=1
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...22&postcount=4

EDIT: just reread ur post. Seems you have found it, but that the boat uses that area on more parts...my bad.
I guess...one could tweak it in 3D MAX and hex...and simply add a new tex for that bowplane. Not something i am yet capable of doing but can be done 100%

Same here.. know it's possible, but I do not have the program or the experience.

MaxT.dk 05-18-07 03:33 AM

I will look for that setting, thanks FooFighters.

At the same moment, did any of you seen a Balao skin that would look like this one:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6.../SubsimSig.png

I don't care if it's historical correct or not, I just want it :smug:

Any ideas? :)

I've just tried to turn on and off that setting and in both cases my sub had the old original rusty skin...

Here's preview of my Balao skin folder (X:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Submarine\NSS_Balao)
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/7653/balaomg6.gif

Any other ideas?

(as said, renaming the new skin files to *_lr.* worked, but that's not a "JGSME compatible", is it?)

Somehow.. somewhere you're game uses low-res skins.
I don't know how :hmm:

If you unpack the rar file.. And change the name of the dds skin files.
And then put it in the mods map of JGSME.. then it is compatible.

But it still a route around the the problem.. somewhere you're game is using low-res textures.

Not in hi-res, only with original SHIV textures
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109055

If you ask captain cox nicely, maybe he wants to do a hi-res version.
He can use my skin.. no problem.

MaxT.dk 05-18-07 09:30 AM

1) yeah... somewhere... somehow... oh well.. I've did it manually, no problems :)
2) great! thanks man! I've asked him if he could do it :)

CaptainCox 05-18-07 09:35 AM

MaxT.dk 05-18-07 09:36 AM
