There are many accounts already in SH3 of U-boat Kaleuns hit by their own acoustic homing torpedoes...
On the other hand, how many subs of any nation were hit by their own torpedoes, and what should the percentage chance be? If it happens to you once every five careers, that's still way too many.
Agreed. Never happened to me, but have read posts about it. Just to say the possibility is already implemented if you are crazy enough to stay surfaced full speed after shooting one of those...:D

Gotta admit it'd be funny as a battleship captain to see this torpedo in the water heading straight at you then turn around and suddenly an explosion and some oil surfaces.

Does anybody know of some website where some historical data is available on the use of the torpedoes by surface boats? Seeing the Japanese 61 cm torpedo referenced and it's maximum range of 40 kms, I fail to see how that range is useful in practise.
