I have always used the same format: When it asks for a name I use the last name of my captain, i.e. "Asche". When it says I already have a save by that name and do I want to overwrite it, I do. Never had a single problem.

stabiz 11-19-06 04:05 PM

I do Stabiz1, Stabiz2, Stabiz3, etc. (Yes, what an amagination!) Never crashed on me.

I always name my save game AtSea and keep overwriting it. Biggest bug I've found is the SH3 Commander news blurb before loading the mission is often truncated.

After I started doing this I've never had any problems with save games.

Hope this helps

That's the about the only method I haven't tried. Thanks.

Yeah I get that too, also the Long / Lat and course in the heading are zero after saving.

Sulikate 11-19-06 07:45 PM

I usually save like this:

01
02
03(convoy)
04(sink01)
05(base)

and so on...
I never had problems.

monsoonrat 11-19-06 07:51 PM

I have had this happen once to me. It was after adding the battery fix mod while at sea. Once I loaded my saved game, I immediately started sinking and no matter how much speed or emergency blow of ballast, I quickly sank and died, no matter how many times I shut down and restarted my game. I ended up having to do a clean install and quickly learned not to apply any mods while at sea. No that I am saying that this what happen to cause your problem, but just wanted to let you know it has happen to me and I know how angry one becomes when you have spent all time trying to find something to blow up only to have start allllll over again.

I've gotten this before, but only when I use the "Save and Exit" option, which is known to be buggy. If I am under water, I usually "Save" then emergency surface and hit Esc and abandon my career. Try this. I've never had a problem when I do that. I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned this, yet.:o

Nope it never got fixed. And that was about 10 Nvidia driver realeases ago... (I was using the 71.xx detontator drivers back then...up in the 91.xx now)

That is also after at least 3 reinstalls, the last of which I did Fresh and did NOT bring over my SHIII game folder from the previous install.

I'm running a GeForce FX 5200, hoping to be able to upgrade for Christmas.

Samwolf... As you can see in that thread I linked..I have had nothing but grpahics issues since I went to this Nvidia 6800 GT.

I actually loaded SHIII on my sons PC and sat with my old ATI 9800Pro and my Nvidia 6800, both with 4xAA and 8xAS, on the same Dell 2001FP 21" LCD monitor, and the ATI beat the crap out of my Nvida (and the ATI is 2 generations older than the Nvidia). Waves looked spectacular, reflections looked like reflections.... and being able to use light bloom makes a big difference.

The only game I have where the NVIDIA looked better was Half-life 2...belive it or not.

Im building a new PC now with a ATI 1950XTX ....and will be hard pressed to ever go Nvidia again.

Thanks, I know I've seen others say they had this problem. I never apply mods mid-patrol, learned the hard way early on when using mods. Still trying to figure this one out, but so far no luck.

I have my AA and AS set to "application controlled". I've run into Nvidia problems with their drivers on other games like Panzer Elite. Maybe someday I'll be able to get an ATI.

While reading this thread and loading my savegame last evening I ran into the same issue !!! I heard about it a few times now but still hoped that it would never happen to me...:damn:

I tried to load an earlier savegame but the result was the same: diving to some 500m, accelerating to 128 kts and an LI who tells me that we are way to deep - but hey, still alive...

The only savegame of this patrol which loads coerrectly is one where I was forced to leave the game very quickly due to some family buiseness.
I saved while I was just about to attack a merchant at close range. Now I want to try to figure out if I can make it home with just pausing the game or simply by ending the patrol and wasting me left eels...

So far I haven't found a "pattern" to which save ends up being corrupted. It just appears to be random, but IMHO there has to be some condition at the time you save that cause the hiccup. Just haven't been able to find it yet.

Of course, I haven't hit the problem during the career I'm playing now, but I figure it's only a matter of time.

I donīt really know if it is a pattern right now, but in my case the first corrupt savegame in the line appears with a fragmented save time (e.g. "00:5") in the career loading screen.

Will try to find out, if this behavior can be considered as an "early warning"...
