Always figure out the main direction of the convoy, and if you get in amongst the ships, always do a 360 degree check, before turning to attack with the bow or stern tubes as you may need to adjust your position before making the final turn to attack. This way you can avoid many unpleasant suprises.

Bernard must've been at the helm, lol.

I'm sure we all had such close encounters.

Im usually alerted to such an encounter by a loud crashing sound followed by jets of water and wimpering crew.

Yeh! Usually I'm looking at my damage control panel, walking around the bridge, "talking to the radioman", then the ussual "Ship spotted!" and then "We are being damaged!", "Critical flooding!" or "Diesel engines damaged!", so YEH, it's a very interesting sound

I came across a convoy of roughtly twenty ships today. It was almost totally unescorted, with its only protection being an Auxillary Cruiser. I managed to sink a Medium Cargo and the Auxillary Cruiser, and damage a Tanker and two other ships. I surfaced and stuck with the defenseless convoy, hoping the wind would calm from the current 11 m/s so that I could use my deck gun.

Then I got careless and was rammed by a Medium Cargo:damn:.

The worst thing is I saw the collision coming. I was at the map screen, with my boat behind and to the right of the ship and passing it, and I thought, wow, that's going to be close. Then I thought, "hey, ain't I a little too close"?

I stepped onto the bridge a few seconds before it hit me dead on:cry:.

Funny that they don't go off when they don't physically touch you. Didn't they have proximity detonators:-??

Be glad. If they DID, noone would survive to tell the encounter with a mine! You would just gte the screen of dead and "Game Over".

But it makes you wonder :hmm:

I've had several collisions with DEs and DDs and survived thankfully. They wander off dazed and usually sink with in 30 minutes And like has been said, no credit for it. Why is that I wonder, SHIII bug or just because you've sunk a ship not using torpedos?

I have always wondered about that too. :)

Anyone got a pic when a mine explodes?

A well known bug. You could sink tons of escorts by ramming them with your conning tower IIRC. As to the mines, most of them in WW2 were contact mines, especially in the earlier years. Later on there were more and more magnetic ones.
