Gotta agree F4 is the best flight sim out there. Of course it has superb fidelity and realism. But to me the campaign environment is what truely sets this sim apart from anything else that's been done. There are plenty of strategies, but in regards to the advice above to blow bridges.... I don't recommend this except perhaps in Iron Fortress, and even in that campaign it's not necessary. Blowing bridges will severely restrict your own ability to advance. If you can't check the red tide, then it may be a necessity, but I turn the insfrastructure slider off to ensure blue doesn't destroy any bridges between the start point and the objectives. I do target bridges behind the objectives to restrict reinforcement and resupply, but knocking down the ones you'll need to cross will drastically lengthen the campaign in my opinion. |
I have both 4.0 and AF and AF gets the nod from me. Played the first one with both of the big mods (Sp 4.2 and FF,) and really enjoyed them both but I just like AF more 'out of the box' esp with the Balkans campaign and the very nice cockpits already there. Just a personal taste thing, I guess. AF may be slightly less when it comes to the fidelity but I can easily live with that. It's not as if I have ever noticed.

Where are you guys getting those mods? Links please?
All the mods I have seen make you PAY for them, which is the dumbest idea I ahve everyheard. These guys don't believe in releasing free mods for the public? I don't understand that......... If these mods you guys are talking about are free, please please send the links, and if any of you have hitiles, hook me up as well. I'm not paying 20$ just to make the ground look cooler lol. |

Falcon 4 with Lockon's graphics - now that would be something. Actually, I haven't played lock on since I got my new computer 18 months ago. I might give it a spin and see how it looks. |

Mods are worth what you think they are worth. For F4 I bought three cockpits and the Hi Tiles because I thought they were worth it. The cockpits I still do. The Hi Tiles didn't last very long.

I still don't understand why they charge for them. i mean the guy re-did the ground, big whoop.......sure I bet it took a long time all by himself but so? He chose to do it.
I mean look at the things Teddy has done for SH3, he did alot more than "making the water look prettier" He re-did the entire damage model/gameplay/and made everything look better, and he DIDN'T charge.......... What is even more scary is that these guys defend the guy to the last stand. I don't see this guy to be anybetter than Xsoftware or whoever that wasy stealing mods and charging for them. Its scary what happens to people when they aren't informed. |
You have the option to buy or not. Bitching about somebody selling their work is dumb. You vote with your wallet so why are you complaining? It's a simple decision for you. Do you want Hi-Tiles or not. Do you want to buy it or not? It's that simple.
Do I wish the mods I bought were free? Most certainly. Did I want those mods enough to pay for them? Yes. The cockpits are awesome. As far as defending. I'm not defending anyone. It's a simple case of supply and demand. Yes or no! |
Thats one of the things I like about AF: Aeyes' beautiful cockpits come as standard.
Actually, Dutch has me thinking (and not about the morality or whatever of buying mods): In the sim community, especially flight sims, payware mods are very common and, obviously a lot of work does go into them. Some of the payware aircraft our there for FS9 for example, have had hundreds and hundreds of hours put into them. What I'm wondering is why we don't tend to see it for other genres even though there are mods for different games that have had every bit as much love and work put into them. Why IS it so common in flight sims and very few other genres? |
I'm thinking that it's got a little to do about age ranges. I think the older crowd is the majority for flight sims and the older crowd generally have more ready cash than the younger crowd and are more likely to pay for these photo-realistic add-ons.
