When running decks awash can you get back up to "normal" surface depth without resetting the cfg file? say as in bad weather or to use the deck gun without issuing diving suits to the crew ??

To go from decks awash to fully surfaced?

Just hit 'S' for surface. To go decks awash again, just manually set depth to whatever the boredline submerged depth for you is. 7.5 to 7.9 ish or so meters i think. TO run your decks awash, you have to intentionally do it by manually setting your depth to go a couple meters deeper. editing the cfg file is what allows you to do it. Otherwise its just a hard surface or not surfaced with nothing in between.

Thanks for that

Thanks for the tips Ducimus they are very usefull to me. I have only just got my hands on my first type IX boat a type IXC. :arrgh!:

Thanks for the tips

I´m using a IX-B boat and i note that the fuel must be used carefully.

i arrived at 1 december 1941 to the american coast with 50 % of the fuel expended travelling at 9 knts. And i need more fuel for patrol operations and the expected combats...

and in a previous caribbean patrol i had to ressuply in canary islands because i was short on fuel, the boat arrived with only a few drops of fuel in the tanks.

Good work Ducimus!

One other thing is you should remember when running across the pond is the keep an eye out for milchcows (depending on these being available in mods you are running).

These can mean the difference between getting home with fuel to spare or paddling the rubber dinghy back to Lorient!

Das Boot reference
Chief: What about fuel? We won't make even La Rochie.
Capitian: We will.
Chief: What about the last 100 miles?
Capitian: We'll hoist the sails then.

Not exact but I think it relates well

Decks awash means that the conning tower is above water and the rest of the submarine is at the same level as the water. Decks awash means that because the body of the submarine is so low in the water, the waves "wash" over the deck.

To go decks awash, manually set your depth between periscope depth, which is about 15 meters, and full surface which is about 5 meters on your depth gauge. Go somewhere between 8 to 10 meters.
:lurk:

If you are driveing a XXI decks awash its best (I think at least) have the snorkel going because not only do you get speed but save your batteries for emergency use.

But is the top speed of the other u-boats higher if your deck awash or snorkeling?
