In real life you would know where they were from the get go. At some point you would rendezvous with the group. You would be included in the operational briefing as well. Rarely on the Archerfish we participated in war games with our surface fleet. We also used what is called an underwater telephone (not kidding) to communicate with them and we also would get a fix on them at PD with the esm mast.
