Problem with your analogy, Betamax (and Betacam) supposedly had the better performance compared to VHS that’s why professionals use it for recordings. ;)

Well, I'm sure a lot of folks will disagree, but there are professionals who use Macs for serious video and audio work (Hans Zimmer is one, IIRC).

Definitely. Some (I think the Majority) of my fellow modders in EV: Firefly use Macs for the rendering of sprites and scenes with 3d models created by me in Windows (GMAX). They (Macs and Windows) can certainly complement each other, and Macs can do the job alone if you know what your doing (Some of the stuff in EV: Firefly has never seen the inside of a PC durring devlopment and turned out fine) but there is a definite lack of tools available to a Mac user. ;)

I've never had a windows box go BSoD when inserting a bad 3 1/2 floppy disk.
You haven't you must have a kick ass PC ;). In one of my past jobs we had 32 PCs, 28 or them were running windows and 4 were running an early old mac OS. this was a few years ago so the windows OS were 98 second edition. The server was Windows2000. all PC's were networked. over the 4yrs I was there the macs never broke down, and as far as i can remeber they never ever crashed. They were stable as. Windows on the other hand was just sh*t compared to Macs. They crashed, BSOD, memory problems network problems, while the macs just cruise silently along with no problems. In the end we gave away the windows pcs to a school and brought all macs. The company is still using the same mac machines today.

Macs are stable ask any mac user that also has a windows pc. I would change over to mac in an instant if they were gamer friendly. And use my WindowsXP cd as a frizzbie. :|\

When windows comes out its never finished. When a MAC comes out it is. Vista will be full of bugs and ppl will be spending the first yr DL updates. No windows OS has fully been finsihed microsoft just moves on to the next OS and says thankyou suckers for spending $600 on our Windows xp ( really called pro beta windowsxp version 10000000000.9). Vista when they say its ready really they're saying "We got a version of Vista that is 50% bug free tell the ppl its ready"! Price ? Lets make it $700 oh nah lets make it $799 to be more realistic. :D

And microsoft wonder why there software is the most hacked in the cyberworld. :know:

At my High School (Class of '02) we had the placed networked with Macs (~23 in the computer lab plus laptops, 14+ in the library, 1 or 2 in each class, and about 5 PCs in one class), constant headaches. Lost projects, freezes, corrupted data, the works. In computer programming class (off campus) we had about 17 PC in my class alone (each other computer related class had about the same number, the non computer classes had some too especially the GED and medical programs) we never heard a peep of complaint in my three years there, and for two of those years I was in the class the others would generally get called for help- occasionally we would help set up something or “Hay _______ go check out the computer Mr. or Mrs. Blah Blahs class, they need a hand” that that person was back in 20 minutes, but that was it. We never had the massive earth shattering windows problems we all hear about… unless we caused them (occasionally we did for entertainment).

I don’t know maybe it was all the spyware filter junk in the Macs (to make sure us students weren’t looking at naughty pics) or the dozens of students who don’t know what they are doing using them every day. While our PCs were pure and clean (each student was required to reformat and install windows and each program on his or her machine at one point) that caused this discrepancy.

But when it came down to it I always used the few PCs on campus when I got the chance and I never complained... except when the Tec deleted my research paper but that’s another story.

Ok. It was junior year for World History class we had to write a Research Paper on the subject of our choice (subject to the approval of our teacher). I picked the Battle of Stalingrad. I had finished the outline and rough draft and was about 75% done with the final draft when one day I come in to my study hall like class (forget what it was called) and I find the document has been deleted. I ask the teacher and she looks in to it and says she thinks the computer technician came in and deleted it by mistake. The paper is due in about 4 days lucky I had an older backup on disk. I was the only student to get the “act of god extension” (“act of computer extension” the teacher dubbed it); I think I turned the paper in only a day or two after the deadline. I got a ‘B+’ I think, lost points for the actually writing part but the research was good.

Don’t ask to read the paper I lost it long ago when I moved.

kiwi_2005 05-05-06 09:46 PM

Good come back. A B+ is not bad at all.

The analogy is correct. There is no proof that betamax was 'better', was just a matter of preference. Same as with a Mac.

Betamax of old, and the newer Betacam are not the same, they are just made by the same company. Betacam is what the professionals use.

We are Microsoft. Lower your firewalls and surrender your Macs. Your computers will become vulnerable to viruses and spyware, Your ITunes will adapt to Windows Media Player. Resistance is Futile.
