The program crashed

Well, I did just about everything I could and I still get Windows Error report screen when trying to load my career. So, it looks like I will have to burn all the Mods to a CD and reinstall the game. I will have to find the MV whatever and ver 1.4b. ANd the program JSGME in order for it to work after I reinstall the game. That looks like the only thing I can do. I've tried repair, I've tried restore to a previous date, nothing worked. :damn: So for now I going to copy all the mods to a CD. If anyone can think of what I should do, then I would appreciate the advice. It's a lot of work to start all over again. I was lucky that I backed up my saved games, so I still have them. HELP! Robert

I happened to me some times also, wondering what went wrong. Check your mods folder for any inconsistencies like that.

Are the mod files supposed to extract in the ubisoft/silent hunter III/ root directory where JSGME is or are they suposed to extract into the MOD folder only!

robj250 04-15-06 10:56 AM

I just happen to notice something!

When I looked in my Silent Hunter III root directory c:\Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter III, besides the program JSGME.exe, I found all the extracted folders along with the tga files and readme files for all the instalations I did on Apr 11 and Apr 13. These extracted folders were also in the MOD folder. I don't think this is the way it is supposed to happen. :-? Am I correct on this assumption? I knew something was wrong when I played SH3 yesterday because none of the patches showed up in the game and the things that were supposed to be added to the game were not there and nothing was happening in the game. So, that's when I started reading the instruction sheets that came with each mod I installed. What I did next was to manually put the files where there were supposed to be because they where not there, they were in the root directory. That's when the program crashed after trying to load my career and I received the Windows' error reoprt. Now I'm not that great on deciphering those reports and I did not send them to Microsoft. I just clicked on the "do not send" and then the SH3 quit and I was back to my desktop theme.

So, what I plan to do is, first remove the files I installed manually, and put the backup files back in. Then I will run JSGME.exe which is my generic mod enabler v 1.4.0.49 and remove each mod from the activated list. I also noticed that I have RUb1.45 which was installed on April 4th. On Apr 4, it seems that all those mods (6 of them) worked when running SH3, but the mods extracted after that date, did not work when running SH3. I think because the files extracted in two places, the root directory and the MOD folder. :damn:

So, first thing I am going to do, while waiting for an answer from someone to clear this situation up is to start removing the mods using the mod enabler and move the activated from the right back to the left side. Them I will wait for a response from someone.

Hello 250!

I don't know if this could help or if you have tried it allready: I got some problems to install mods using JSGM couple weeks ago. I think the mistake I did was I forgot uninstall and reinstall clean copy of SHIII before I made major changes. After I did that - no problems anymore.

This might be irrelevant but I think I noticed you installed some mods maybe two times, because they are allready in RuB. If you are using RuB 1.45 it's a long list of encluded mods... I think you have studied them but maybe it would be a good idea you to check them again. There's no need to do same job twice.

If you can't solve the problem but forced to get clear and patched installation of SHIII don't forget to check (manually) that ALL previus SHIII and Mod files will be removed from your computer before new installation. I forgot to do that and so I was unable to patch the game.

Sry my poor english but maybe you could understand.

Thanks for your input. What I have done so far this morning is that I used the generic Mod Enabler v 1.4.0.49 to remove all the installed Mods except the ones I originally started out with, which leaves as activated mods: MVP-1.0, RUb1.45, RecManualMod and JCW_Intro. I manually removed all the folders that were made by the activation of all the mods I "used to have", both from the MOD folder and where they were duplicated in the Silent Hunter III root folder where JSGME.exe is. So, hopefully, with all the clean up, the program may work. I have not manually removed all the things that I manually put in on the 14th. So, if the program does not work, that will be my next move. I am not very happy about having to reinstall the game. I have also backed up my Career and My Naval Academy accomplishments, just in case. I burned all the mods I removed to a CD, so I still have them when I want them. Robert.

Well, I've tried everything!!! No Go

Well, I have tried everything I know and the program still crashes after I try to load my mission where I ended back in St. Naire. :damn: So, It looks like I will have to do a complete new install. :( So, I will need to know where I can get the following: ungrade to version 1.4b, MVP-1.0; RUb1.45 and JSME. :-? Thanks. Robert
Oh, two more questions, how do I get the words "good hunting" in my signature with the words in red; will I still be able to continue from my last patrol which was #16?

robj250 04-15-06 01:46 PM

The worse came about!

Nothing I did helped. So I have to do a clean install of the game. Need to get the upgrade to version 1.4b and then the Generic Mod Enabler JSGME. Then I hope I can go from there. Oh, the uninstall left my 14th patrol. :D Robert.

Robert,

Try to load a game "before mission", not in the middle of it. It might work.

If this fails, unload (via JSGME) all the mods you installed the last 2-3 days. Again load a saved game "before mission", not in the middle of it. It might work. You will lose only one mission.

Also read each mods documentation carefully. Read again my previous post / reply. I have done this mistake many times. One of them was yesterday (and I play this game almost a year).

Best,

VonHelsching

I had to do a clear install of the game, nothing else I tried worked. So I uninstalled it, kept my saved career and files. Restarted the computer. Checked the game. My crew is the came as they were but I cannot go to a saved mission, I have to continue and it works. So now I have to upgrade to v 1.4b and install the mod enabler to get started again. I'm not leaving the base until I know that I'm installing mods correctly. Thanks. Robert

A very small hint: install only one at a time. Go on patrol and check if everything works. Return to base/exit and install another mod. Repeat over and over until all is installed.

I will do that this time. I have just activated the originals I had before - MVP1.0, RUb1.45,RecManualMod and JCW_Intro. Now I will go on patrol. Thanks a bunch. Robert

Hurrah :D It works  and yes, I will only install one mod at a time. The next one I will install is the BlueNightMap. Robert

Hurrah :D It works as I have restarted my 16th Patrol to BE29. :) Yes, I agree with you. I will only install one mod at a time and then go on patrol to see if it works. The next mod I intend to install is the BlueNightMap, I don't like the redish tinge. Night time is not red, it is dark and blue suits me just fine. I was lucky when I uninstalled it, I save my career files and other files. The mods I have at the moment are: RUb1.45, MVP-1.0, RecManual from Augie64, JCW_Intro and the Sound Trainer. It's cool to be able to play it again. Thanks. Robert.

Navigation Tool

I forgot to mention. I obtained a Staedtler Navigational Protractor. It is square and clear plastic. I used it in the original Silent Hunter and it sure come in handy sometimes :D Robert
