Pretty sure that was an IXD2, you can tell by looking at the sides of the boat, as the tanks there stick out farther then a standard IX.

Both are player controlable, However the Stern DG is the only 1 that your crew will show up on. Dont panic, you crew still fire both, just only man 1 ! Its a bug :lol:

Yep, but beware that you will loose a boat (the above was the Type IXD2 1944 Boat). I still want to try cloning it and make it a better boat. You see when you launch with this boat you will get an error msg say FlackGun N° 3 destroyed, but flackgun 3 is the Stern DG. Then to top it off, you crew will only appear on the Stern DG not the front 1 but they still fire both. Then your 2 remaining flack guns in the crew compartment will only accept 2 crew members, but you have the slots for 4. Like being a beta tester.

Will do some work myself. Will fix the .sim file as per the "original" U-cruiser: 26 kn surface speed etc. It should be very slow undereater and terrible turn radius.

If this was actually built, it would have become a DC and airplane magnet...

Anyway, I'm all bandwidth and waiting.

It would be a nice opportunity to try to pass the Gibraltar straits surfaced; and having the chance to fight back. I remember Ducimus said that a while ago. Nice concept for a single mission.

And I almost forgot it; I'll take it with the 127mm shells option. I think I'll simulate the twin guns (there were 4 of them on the XI U-cruiser) by applying 1 second reload time (or even less).

I think that at least 2-3 hardcore realism simmers must have fainted or died while reading this thread :-j

Well thats gonna be a tad difficult, since atm all it is, is a Basic.cfg tweak. :)

Not with my version of SHIII you wouldnt. Not even if it did have the correct Gun Mounts.

Umm you can only have 105mm Ammo, Its not the SUB that determins the ammo, its the DG its self. IF I changed it to use say 16" Ammo and gave it a 0 reload time, then all boats that mount the 105mm DG would get the same as above. Not good.

Ohh I know they have, you can tell by their absence! Not that thats such a bad thing ;)

Is there any (far chance) possibility to elongate the IXD/2 and put the subnet cutter in front in order to look like the U-cruiser in the picture :P

To make a U-Cruiser.

Make a backup copy of your Basic.cfg file befor doing this.

2. Goto your Basic.cfg file and open it in notepad/word. Search for ;[SUBMARINE_AMMO10];IXD2 . Goto the Year 1944 (the reason I chose the 1944 boat rather than the 42,43 an 45 boat is ppl usually tends to keep 1's original boat and the 44 is about the same as the 45 so you wont really miss it). Select the entire 1944 entery, paste.

3. Copy the lines below:

4.Go further down your Basic.cfg file until you find the S01-S03 entery's. Select all the S01-S03 settings, paste. Save.

5.Start game, Launch a SP map. Select the Type IXD2 1944 boat. Have fun.

When you want to go back to your campaign game. Save the Basic.cfg file to a folder named U-Cruiser. Then copy paste your original backed up Basic.cfg back into SH3/Data/CFG folder. Now your good to go in your campaign.

Eventually I hoped to clone a sub and do a more permenate solution and maybe address some of the bugs.

I suppose I can now play with the .sim file of the IXD/3 (U-cruiser) now. Now, let's see...

Terrible turn radius
Dive time 1,25 minutes
Surface speed 26 kn
Submerged speed 5,5 kn
Submerged range 30 nautical miles @4kn

But on the surface... :rock:

This u-boat would have success in 1940 only if it could coordinate a tight small wolfpack (1 U-cruiser, 3 VIIBs). Something like a U-hunter killer group. The VIIBs would go for the DDs first and then the U-cruiser would surface.... :rock:
