Cheers. I think I've narrowed down the problem to heating, after some testing it seems the game runs fine "from cold" so to speak. Will buy some compressed air on the weekend. Drivers arn't latest at moment, had to roll back as the latest ones messed up cs:source (is that wise to mention on here?).

Just died for the first time on my 17th patrol. Gutted. Gotta decide whether to reload or say dead is dead and start afresh.....

Heating always problem for any PC; mobile or desktop. Still consider going to you manufacturer website for updated video drivers. Typically older drivers have trouble running higher end games and I am not sure if a direct load from Nvidia would help - again I am not an Nvidia owner - I run ATi. Mobile was the other thing I could not find "Go" drivers except for the 7800 (Nv). Other than a rewrite of the ini/setup file this can get real dicey.

But seems you are on the right track if it runs fine early - dust cleanout.

Still update can help the fans to if the GPU has it/them (fans) sometimes new drivers remodulate and or do things for the GPU/video card.

Also suggest reading the Nvidia section at Guru3D forum they have a lot of good stuff there.

g/l & good hunting!

If your using 'Digital Vibrance" in your Nvidia graphic driver settings turn it off.

Thanks Crop-Duster

I knew if we got this thing on the top enough someone that uses Nvidia would sound-off.

I use Nvidia. Under the performance settings, there should be 3 options. Set it to Performance.

Greatgraddage 02-14-06 09:45 AM

Digital vibrance is off. Gonna reupdate my drivers as I'm not playing cs much anymore anyway. Gone through the settings again, most were geared to performance, some were application controlled, changed AA to off. Will see what it looks like in a bit when I get some more of this report I'm writing done!

Cheers for all your help guys.

trenken 02-14-06 09:48 AM

Surprisingly having a little AA in there, around 2 or 4x, wont make much of a difference than if it were set to off. I've experimented with this a bit. So set it to off, and if everything is fine, try and turn that up a little and see what happens. Your boat will look a lot better with a little anti-aliasing. Unless of course you dont mind the jagged edges, but they really bug me.

SetKeys is the program to set your keys to way you want them. I have a laptop and have reset my keys as I have no numpad. I have not found a way to turn off GUi.

:arrgh!: I missed the obvious - that is why maybe getting drivers can be a challenge for laptops/mobiles - they are model/manufacturer specific for the hotkeys I am betting.

Thanks again all....

I had this EXACT same problem on my laptop (which has a similar nVidia part). It was a real pain because nVidia and HP (the laptop manufacturer) did not provide updated drivers.

The solution was to use one of those hacked up drivers available at different places. Let's see... where was that...

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

That might be the place. Check under drivers and WinXp.

Do some google research and see what you can find (as this is probably not the only place). Note that installing these drivers can be a bit tricky. Do your research before you install.

Once I updated it, then my problems were solved. I could raise and lower the scope, no problem, and all those strange colors for textures were gone. The game works great now. You can bet this is your problem.

Okay, MORE info for you:

(there is a short talk of this in "SH3 Tech and Troubleshooting Index" - the "sticky", on page 3 (I think). Anyway, here is the text copied from there for you:

I am glad your scope issue "cleared up". This last weekend I upgraded my old DX 9.0b drivers (for nVidia FX5600 go - laptop) with new version 80.40 drivers (DX 9.0c).

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=7427

And, gosh, they worked! Now I can use the periscope as it was meant to be used! (no more slowing down to a crawl when the scope lens transitioned through the surface of the water).

At this poiint, it seems all aspects of SH3 are working now.

Greatgraddage 02-14-06 02:28 PM

Just updated them to the 80.40s, will test tommrow I hope, won't have tome tonight. Cheers for your help, that site is great!
