At the battle of Battle of Chesapeake Bay the reinforcement of a majority of your army was stopped and thus you lost the war at Yorktown. Even if you discount the next two this is a major defeat for the RN.

At the Battle of Lake Erie Perry captured 6 British at the cost of 1 and allowed the US to invade Canada and forced a stalemate and eventual withdrawal of British forces from US soil.

At the Battle of Lake Champlain the US denied the British any possibility of controlling more of the Great Lakes than they already did. Again forcing a stalemate and eventual withdrawal of British forces from US soil.

At each of these battles the US and its allies were able to help force the British out of the war and maintain the independence and eventually sovereignty of the US. Just because there wasn’t hundreds of ships fighting on both sides that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a major battle.

To the tune of "There's No Business Like Showbusiness."

There's No Navy like the Royal Navy
There's no Navy I'm sure.

Their sailors are the best
even though the service is poor.

The marines like to fight naked,
recruits are buggered for sure.

It builds character and strength and they can never complain again about being sore.

There's no navy like the royal navy I'm suuuuuuuuurrrrrreeeee (ending in a high pitched squeel like something was shoved somewhere it shouldn't)

:)

i know this though she can refuse the bill of war which means the armed forces can only defend not attack, i know she can still do that one.

unless im mistaken again :-?

The Queen could, theorically, through the Governor General (Well, the GG could), refuse a bill.

Practically, if she did that, I'm pretty sure the PM would just recall the house of common, present an amendment to the constitution, have it ratified before morning and go on merrily. The GG and the senate haven't objected a bill in... Gawd, I can't remember a case, and I'm pretty savy in canadian politics.

Canada's independent. We didn't go to Iraq, did we?

Yup. We are not a "puppet" last time I checked. The Brits love their traditions, thus we have the Governor General. No real power, per say just more of a position, then anything.

Still, I did enjoy signing the Oath Of Fealty thing to the Queen when I went to work for Health Canada in 2000. Interesting that they make you sign it, or they won't hire you. I nearly laughed the poor lady in resources off her chair. :)

Guess that depends on the definition of a "battle." It has lost isolated engagements as all Navy's have. What is probably more accurate is that it has not lost a war... iirc... slept thru my sophmore european history class... Boring!!!

Except that whole loosing the American Revolutionary War that gave birth to the most dominating nation-state in the history of mankind... :yep:

despite the lack of numbers the royal navy remains a super power although small her status is super power and has been for over 375 years from henry the eight to nelson and now to HM Queen elizabeth the second the royal navy is the only true solid navy
The UK is not a superpower.

Well all I take from this is the sincere and earnest hope that those who fancy their chances at poets
confine their action to modelling, where I am sure they exhibit some real skill. :arrgh!:

I speak as a broadminded accepter of most 'bilge' topics. :yep:
But sorry our Poet Lance -a -Lot, this time youve had a premature ejaculation ! :o :-j

Heck, I never did do 'disgusted from....' with any real conviction. ;)
