That creaking sound was the BEST part of sinking a ship in AOD!!!!

Then we just need to add a sound file of the sonarman saying "I hear the death sounds of a sinking ship!" instead of that annoying "YAH!" by the helmsman....

Sailor Steve 11-29-05 08:48 PM

The ship breaking up sound is in there, but for some reason it doesn't always play. I can hear it if I use the external view, but no matter how loud I turn it up I can never hear it from inside my boat.

My sound collection includes the breakup sound from DBSM, but still there's the same problem-it's there, you just can't hear it.

Which sound file is the wake sound, when the bow hits the water in a rough seas?

I tried the BadWeatherWave or something like that, but I think it´s not that.

I think it is "Vapor Siaj"

The same sound is also used for the wind as it brushes past your u-boat, and also for the bow waves of AI ships. Personally, I turned it up about 50% and now I feel like I am actually in a real ocean.

I also turned up and made personal mixes of these other sounds (though I have many more ;) )

amb_OceanSkyline
amb_OceanSkylineLight
amb_Rain
amb_RainLocal
amb_Underwater
amb_Wind1
Submarine waves lap
Wave Bad Weather

I just love the feeling of being in a powerful ocean.

Is there a difference in the sound you hear while surfaced and submergd or do you hear it all as if it were the same? I ask this because it seems pretty stupid if I can hear exactly as well the sounds of explosions from my periscope as I can hear them from the bridge. Shouldn't we be able to hear only an explosion while surfaced but not the creaking sounds of bulkheads bursting and vice versa while submerged? Is the game calibrated to this effect?

Lane 11-30-05 02:57 AM

Do you guys go to Sonar station and listen ? that's were I think you
would heard these breaking up sound's the Sonar operator should hear
them ? You sound guys know more about those sound files then i do :D
That 's were I have heard those weird sound after the ship sink's to
bottom and the ocean currents move the ship around. I guess the ship
breaking sound's could be hear by crew inside the U- Boat?
have not watch Das Boot for a while :D
just my two cents :-j
Lane :D

P_Funk 11-30-05 04:28 AM

As I recall in Das Boot while submerged the crew could hear the sounds of the bulkheads tearing apart and that told them they had sunk the ship. It was so loud that anyone could hear it. THe sound waves just travelled through the water. I'd like to see this. I mean you can hear a normal explosion in thegame when submerged which isnt real. If they'd hear it it would be muffled. ANd while surfaced I imagine they didnt hear the tearing bulkheads from the bridge. BUt again as I said before I dont know if this difference is modelled by the game.

Yes there is a difference between surface sound and Submerged sounds..(of the sinking ship) Surfaced sound is called: Scufundare vapor

And submerged through the hydrophones is: Scufundare vapor_hyd

Deimos01 11-30-05 11:45 AM

I remember, quite some time ago while comming out of the channel, I kept hearing this strange noise at the hydro station. Could see nothing from the tower to account for it, so, on a whim I headed my sub towards the sound. Turns out it was a merchant in the last stages of sinking. Dont know why it was sinking but it was cool that I heard it before I saw it.

Hudsonhawk 11-30-05 12:32 PM

OK......update........"creaking sound" from what i gather from some past and present post's.....and testing...can only be heard through the Hydophones. Plus it wouldn't hurt to be close to the ship when it's sinking. :yep:

salior steve has a GREAT soundpack out there so i would advise anyone looking for the sound to check his out first. I'm still NEW with this....... soooooooo i'm in the experimental phases.
If i get any break throughs you will all be the first to know.

The file we are trying to get to work is...: Scufundare vapor_hyd
in your SH3/data/sound (incase anyone also wants to try it)

Von Scheerbach 11-30-05 09:03 PM

Well, Hudson, not to throw any cold water on your testing, but......

I just finished a patrol. Had 2 torps left and was cruising that straight between Scapa Flow and Lerwig and came across a T3 doing 12 knots. I submerged, got myself to a 90 degree firing position, and put one torp right under her stack. She went dead in the water. I went to all stop and waited, to see if she would sink by the stern or I would need to surface and finish her off with the deck gun. I jumped TC up to 4X to speed the process, and sure enough she started going under. I hit F7 to check the crew fatigue, then F3 again to watch her slip under, which dropped TC back to 1. I watched her sink, then hit F5 to go to the map view and plot a new course, when all of a sudden......

There was the creaking and groaning sounds of a sinking ship, while I was in the map view.....I jumped to the hydrophones and pointed them at the bearing the tanker was on, heard it there too. Jumped to the Control Room, heard it there....

I couldn't believe it. After 2+ careers, countless patrols, and I don't know how many sunk ships, suddenly I was hearing one sink!

Hudsonhawk 11-30-05 11:22 PM

Nahhhhhh......it's Cool..... I'm plugging away. I also here the "Creaking" every once in a while.
I'm new to this........ :o Won't give up...till i'm there..... :|\

lafeeverted 12-01-05 02:45 AM

you can hear the sounds without the hydrophones, just need to be close enough to the ship when it goes down.

RgR that.....i'm with sailor steve...where some times i hear the ship going down and other times i don't.... .........It's a tough file.. :damn:

Did some playing around with this. I went into Chapter32 of my Das Boot DVD and recorded the sound of the ship sinking.

Next, with a wave editor, I then cut out the voices. After that, I played some more.

I'm no expert at this stuff so I promise nothing spectacular but it was worth a try.

I have four files available.

1) shipsink-57.3.zip is the recording with the voices removed with nothing else done to it. The 57.3 indicates the length of the recording in seconds. There is a lot of bass rumbling here that I am not overly pleased with. Zipfile 3.8 meg unzips to 1.29 meg

http://rapidshare.de/files/8445563/s...k57.3.zip.html

2) shipsink-71.5.zip is the same recording as above but with bits and pieces cur and pasted back in elsewhere to lengthen the recording; hence 71.5 seconds. Zip file 4.8 meg unzips to 1.3 meg

http://rapidshare.de/files/8445863/s...-71.5.zip.html

3) shipsink-10-79.4.zip is recording #2 with the tempo reduced by ten percent. This one is my particular favorite as it not only slows thing down just enough where you can hear more of the stacatto effect of it breaking up but also seems to have reduced some of the bass rumbling mentioned earlier. Length: 79.4 seconds. Zip file 4.8 meg unzips to 1.3 meg

http://rapidshare.de/files/8446234/s...-79.4.zip.html

4) shipsink-15-84.9.zip Same as number two but with the tempo reduced by fifteen percent. Zip file 5.1 meg unzips to 1.3 meg

http://rapidshare.de/files/8446544/s...-84.9.zip.html

The sound file (Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/Data/Sound) Scufundare vapor or Scufundare vapor_hyd is the one to replace with one of these (after renaming it of course).

Use any of these as you wish and if you can improve on them, so much the better. Just be sure to share with the rest of us.
