Obviously not studied it much.

Communism, the ideology is perfect, that is its inherent flaw. It's a utopian dream that can't exist due to human nature.

Communism isn't in itself bad, it was perverted in its course, much as Islam is being perverted by madmen.

But then of late there have been a bunch of generalisations being thrown around here without much thought.

Sure. Communism was an utopia. A very good and bright itself. And historically we got what we got, nothing more, nothing less. And here, in this topic for example, "Communism" means not the ideology itself, but the regime that existed in USSR and its ally countries and called itself "communist". Or am I wrong?

What about the United Federation of Planets? It’s basically a communist state and it seems to work out OK. Everyone has free food, has free clothing (just don’t where a red shirt), there is no disease (except the one the crew of the Enterprise encounters every week), there are a bunch of cool starships from Star Fleet to protect you. Over a 150 member worlds can't be wrong!
