The submarines that I've done are not more than 9-10.000 (Toti class, Sauro class, I'm currently doing the U212). The Slava is about 45000 so I'll have to reduce it a little bit (I did it in 2 days and with drawings of bad quality so it didn't come out as good as it should have). I also have a Krivak2 and the Ivan Rogov that I made some weeks ago wich should be quite light but I don't remember the number of polygons by heart. I also have other drawings of soviet ships like Kirov, Kiev, Moskva and others which I'll do in the near future bearing in mind the 32000 poly limit.
I've here attached a snapshot of the Ivan Rogov model. Sorry for the bad quality of the pics. http://www.geocities.com/yngwiepp/Images/Rogov1.jpg |
So do you draw them in ACAD first and then import them into 3DS MAX?
|
Yes, I prefer using autocad since I'm more experienced with it and it gives me the possibility to define the model by surface rather than by volume as 3DSMax does (or at least so I've understood)
|
Speaking from experience here but you'd be better off building the model from scratch in 3DS MAX rather than importing a CAD model.
It takes a bit of getting used to but I have made all my models from scratch in max. |
Thanks for the tip. In your experience a 3ds made with autocad and one made with 3dStudioMax, which one is heavier?
Btw I've got also the Sauro Class SSK up in DW, here some pics: http://utenti.lycos.it/simonart/dw/Sauro2.jpg http://utenti.lycos.it/simonart/dw/Sauro3.jpg http://utenti.lycos.it/simonart/dw/Sauro4.jpg |
Oh man I'm just drooling like mad over these models
Hope you make them available to import in DW. |

Could we see a lower down shot of the Arleigh Burke?
Of the bow closer down. |
Any modeller who would like to have models included in LWAMI or who would allow us to make a LWAMI version that supports your models should PM me.
We are very interested in supporting people who want to share their work with the community. :) |
The underwater part of the Burke (and of the Nanutchka as well) has been 'imagined' because we had drawings from the waterline up so everything below is not correct. For example, the bow is missing the transom and also the position of the propeller shafts is hypotetical. I'll post pics as soon as we've got some paint on it.
