Yeah, don't worry about it, Rubini. People can always personalize their water after they download it. Or if they don't know how, they can always ask the author for personalized requests. Usually, I don't turn people down when they ask me for some 'special' tweeks or modifications. I'm always glad to help them.

The problem with the light settings in SH3 is due to:

1) People have wildly varying monitors, brightness settings, and working environments.

2) SH3 doesn't model moonlight. On a clear moonlit night at sea you can see up to around 10 miles; with plenty of light to pick out details. On a cloudy night with no moon, it'll be nearly pitch black. Unfortunately SH3 only models one ambient light setting no matter what, and there are no moon reflections or anything else.

Also, in my opinion, for maximum realism, you want the ocean to be darker than the sky - as it can only reflect what light it gets from the sky/environment, and much of this light is refracted down, thus reducing the sea brightness.

As for me, I use BeeryWater, but I'll check out this - a gradient night sky might be an improvement.

yeah to me the way this sky goes from blue to black is a good mixture between some light from the moon and the pitch blackness you get with no moon/little moon

In this case is a lot difficult, every computer is different.,

Could be a very good solution the all in one tool because it vary depending of the gamma correction in windows, monitors etc.

For example i have rub with the 16 km_with moon and i adjust the gamma for 1.40 until fits my taste. but the control room is a bit too bright. but is perfectly playable.

Also my mitsubishi monitor with the superbright button activated, outside seems that i have got a night vision googles or a modern uzo and unreal colours. :stare:

Hey Rubini - Great work.
Don't you ever sleep?

:lurk:

Marhkimov 11-02-05 08:31 PM

nah, can't you see? he's too addicted to SH3. :D

Panama_Red 11-03-05 04:34 AM

I tried out your mod last night and I will say that this is the best and most realistic night sky to date for SH3.

I would suggest just two more things for your sky:
1. incorporate Marhkimov's realistic sun reflection
2. make two sets of sea color; your current lighter set for people with dark monitors and a darker sea for people with lighter monitors (especially since the sea color preferance seems to be split about 50-50 on the darkness).

Thanks for another great improvement.

Thanks guys,
Thanks Panama Red,

I already did all your suggestions. I'm just waiting a bit more to listen more comments/suggestions like yours. ;)

Thanks again,

Rubini.

Me again!

I was thought about the night skies. Perhaps could be a great idea to left the more clear environment for the Mediterranean sea (land proximity and city lights) and 2 others sets a bit more darker for Atlantic ocean and Artic sea. What do you think mates? SH3 really use all the ocean's environments?

Unfortunately, no. The best way to sail on different seas is by using SH3Cmdr to alternate.

HEMISENT 11-03-05 07:45 AM

Rubini, a bit off topic here but what ever happened to the idea of putting the updated map w/convoy routes in your next HT version?

Cheers!

Rubini 11-03-05 08:45 AM

marhkimov,

I'm missing something...I don't know how to change the sea environment using SH3Cmdr... :hmm:

HEMISENT,

I'm just waiting FLB finish his work on the map.

Rubini.
