It really depends on my mood. If the patrol was eventfull, and I sunk a great amont of tonnage, I sail all the way back. But if I sank two small merchants, I'd rather teleport, and try to made the next patrol better :yep:

I knew there had to be a couple of you out there.

Yeah, right.

I navigate back, using some TC but I don't set it too high b/c I'm coming out of TC at intervals to make sonar checks if I'm running on the surface. Fuel is almost never a reason to tele back, as I always keep a check on my gauges. Once my stupid navigator told me we had plenty of fuel to return on and we made it to the entrance to Wilemshaven where we ran out of fuel. :damn:
I don't think there should be a bonus for returning to base but there should be a penalty or cost in renown if you get your boat stranded somewhere.

I don't know how you do it. I'm too impatient to go out on patrol without TC, I don't see how you can go BACK to base at 1x.

It's allways 1024x for me in friendly waters, going from or back to base.

I'm reading Iron Coffins and the "friendly waters" around Brest are where his uboat kept getting jumped by British bombers waiting for those returning from patrol.

FERdeBOER 10-26-05 08:13 PM

I return to home, of course using TC.

The fuel for me is a problem. I try to arrive to the patrol area as soon as I can. I cross Calais at flank speed if I can go surfaced (at night)... so my patrols usually are at 1/3 or low speed, mixing with submerged runs for being able to endure enought the patrol and have fuel for the returning (which is not as fast as the go).

F course all these probles are solved for me when departing from France

I always conserve fuel and usually patrol at "ahead slow" saving fuel for the flank speed chases, i always plan for the return trip home, and i USED to do the return trip home, usually at "ahead standard"

However, 100 renown to me just isnt worth the real life time it often takes me to get to port. Ive thought about adjusting that reward upwards, but Meh, its like i get enough "Free renown" for just going to my patrol grid for 24 hours as it is already.

I have my TC bumped up to x4096
I usually TC home after the patrol and torpedps spent but sometimes use 1x whenheavy traffic is expected. Sailing at 1x seems silly to me. Like pretending realism when there really isnt any.
BTW how do u bump up to 4096 TC? Change a cfg somewhere. Does it work?

andy_311 10-27-05 05:02 AM

I too always sail home and dont hit the esc until am in a subpen the only time i will hit the teleport is if my sub is totally battered and hull integrity is below 10%percent.

U-104 10-27-05 08:06 AM

I had my hull down to 2% once and still managed to sail across the Atlantic back home to St. Nazarie.

I don't go home until torpedoes and flak ammo is spent. Then I time compress, usually at =/< 256x.

I love bring the boat into the harbor and docking in real time. I never get tired of seeing all those people waiving a me from the docks. It's one of my favorite aspects of the game!

Data/Cfg/Main. You can change the allowed compression speeds for pretty much anything there. When I get a "Ship Spotted" my TC drops to 1x. When I'm in combat or near shore I set it at 32x.

Even though I have my TC set to 4096 max I usually don't go above 2048, as it gets real jumpy at that setting.

Cpt.Thorne 10-27-05 01:20 PM

Always sail home!
If I come back during night time I shoot few starshells to light up the party :sunny:

I gotta know did you ever dive with all that damage or just scoot home on the surface?

either way nice job mister

:arrgh!:

U-104 10-27-05 05:17 PM

I don't play "dead is dead." And the first time I tried to dive with that much damage I was crushed at 15 meters :hulk:. So the second time I tried I scooted home on the surface.
