You dont understand me Beery.....
I do not like Mods Installers.....

I like to watch what thing i am installing. Mod installers can overwrite your files. I am not saying SH3 Commander is not compatible with some mods, the matter is it can install a determined mod not compatible with other mods installed.

Just an opinion, anyway, i forget to give lot of thanks for effort to the owner of that mod, i do not know who is, but i give thanks for the effort, sorry.

I also loathe mod installers. That's why we offer SH3 Commander with an installer AND without. Besides, this mod goes exactly where you want it even if you use the installer. It doesn't reside in the SH3 directory structure anyway, so you get to inspect it before you use it. You have complete control, because until you use it to launch SH3 it overwrites nothing. Installing it doesn't affect any game files at all, and you can inspect each file in the mod to make sure that they don't conflict with anything.

When you set it in motion it does overwrite some files, but it's not a mod you can install permanently, so installing it manually is not possible. The files never stay in the game. SH3 Commander installs them only when you use it to launch the game, and it automatically removes them afterwards if you want to go back to the game's previous state. It also automatically removes each set of files before loading the next set for a new session. None of SH3 Commander's files stay in the game.

Clearly you're not understanding how this mod works, because there is no way that it can permanently overwrite anything. The point of the mod is that every file it installs is only temporary. Take the Newsmod for example - each news briefing only applies to one specific month. These reports only get loaded on the specific date they are needed. To do this manually would require choosing between 150+ date-based files and loading the two files that applied to the date before every single patrol. SH3 Commander simply automates this so that you don't have to. After the patrol the files are removed and the old versions are put back in, all automatically.

Same here, but I still use SH3Cmdr.

If you carefully inspect all of Cmdr's files, as I do, you can actually control what it does to your SH3. For instance, if you don't like a certain tweek or file, just delete it and it won't be installed. So that is to say that although Cmdr autonomously alters your SH3, you are actually in full control of Cmdr.

I hope you get what I am saying...

I like that I can start a career in any month and year I want.

I like to track what I have done with a Persona and chat it up with my buddies, SHIII Commander brings it all together.

In my view, players who don't use it are basically playing a beta version of the game. SH3 Commander makes SH3 all it can be, and more.

Any one of the following exclusive features would be reason enough to get the mod:

Commander pictures. No other mod can do this.

Dynamic news updates and war maps. No other mod can do this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Beery/SH3C22.jpg

Expanded options.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/Beery/SH3C33.jpg

The commander history. No other mod can do this.

Plus, start a career in any month of any year of the war, from September 1939 to May 1945. No other mod can do this.

In my view the html commander history alone should make this mod one of the most popular mods for any game ever made. I love having a commander with a real life. It astounds me that so few people have tried this mod.

It's basically a tool to help you manually install mods and tweaks, with a bunch of cool stuff added, right?

Not really. The tweaks have made their way in for convinience though.

It's a tool designed to 'liven up' the game, so to say, to add a whole set of both random and historically-based variables in, and to give your captain a better sense of career.

It keeps track of your career in the game, implements adjustments to game data based on both random values and historical dates, and allows you more control over certain features. Among other things, it also gives you a brand new crew generator and editor, which is fantastic.

It's a tool that automatically installs certain mods, and it includes a bunch of mods that couldn't be added to the game without it.

I've been using Commander 2 for a while now, thanks to someone sending me a copy. Don't have the newest one yet, but I'm very happy with the features I do have. Beery's description with pictures says it all. It's one of the top three mods as far as I'm concerned (Rubini's Harbor Traffic is #2 in my opinion, and RUB #3).

Commander doesn't just make the game, it makes your career!

I dont use it, it causes crashes, "memory errors" I do use the RUB mod though.

I don't see how it could. It's as tight as a drum. If it was causing crashes many people would be complaining about it. So far as we can tell, all the problems attributed to it are caused by bugs in the standard game.

Great Moons of Krypton, Beery!

First I find out that we share the same birthday.

Now, I see at the top of your Kapitan's list... Ernst Neumann. Ernst Neumann was the name of my wife's late Grandfather on her Dad's side!

So, I guess my biggest complaint about Commander is that it doesn't come with a hyperlink to a good Existential Detective (you have to have watched "I (Heart) Huckabees" to get that reference, though. http://www.tribute.ca/synopsis.asp?m_id=7759 )

My other complaint is purely cosmetic: I find the white text on blue background and the sans-serif fonts a little too "modern". I would think that a good, clear Germanic font would look more timely, as would a typewriter font for the bulk of the text.

This is one of the font sites I use the most:

http://www.fontreactor.com/browse.php?accio=top&lang=en

So with the bad stuff out of the way, I will get to the ongoing concerns I have:

Ever since installing Commander, I've had these really short careers of one or two sailings. I don't think that's Commander's fault, it's getting into mid-1942, and I just keep getting killed. So, I've long since run out of original Kaleun and crew names, so I like having Commander do the naming.

What I don't get are the medals. Maybe I've missed something in the Read Me, but it seems as though I could use Commander to just give any medal to any crew that I wanted before every mission. I normally rely on RUB to tell SHIII what medals, etc. are to be awarded, and do that in-game. With these really short careers I've been getting, I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't had a sortie in quite a while where either I or the game thought that medals were deserved.

As for the good stuff in Commander, yes there's a lot of it! The best part is the installation -- it's a stand-alone program that doesn't mess with SHIII. Yet it integrates really well with the game, and the ability to tweak the game in the Commander interface is a very nice touch. All of the features of Commander that I have tried so far have run smoothly and witholut any problem. I have yet to try the automatic update feature, but if it works as advertised, then that would be a bonus as well.

The whole Commander set-up really does extend the immersion factor of SHIII, it's a most highly commendable mod!
