Only for single missions? That sucks!

Anyway, when I want to surrender, I surface and immediately save the game. Then I count how many men are still alive at that point. Then I restart the game, and for every second after that that the boat lasts, one man survives. I then edit the campaign files to reflect the final result.

I'm so disappointed. I'd been playing all along like I had the option to surrender. Looks like I'll have to use something like Beery's method.

Not to mention the fact that with 1.4 you don't have the option to end the patrol when enemies are around.

And you don't even get a newspaper frontpage when you dissapear, waddaya mean I'm not enough of an ace , what about my "gallant" crew then ? :-j

I second that one. Reminds me of RedBaron, forced down in enemy territory and a chance you escape the POW camp - had a clip of guy goin' over the wire.

Beery, is there any way that SH3 Commander could address this? Perhaps after having "surrendered" in-game (as you describe above) you could select to "surrender" in SH3 Commander, which would end your career and update your career record, pehaps with some text on what happened to you after your surrender. You still wouldn't be able to surrender in-game, but this would at least allow for some closure to a career.

Escape, try to flee to Mexico, sounds great! Of course, someone will then demand a "Real POW" mod, where all you do is agricultual labor in Kentucky for the duration of the war. :D

Wow! That brings back memories. There was also the prison image where your guy actually became more unkempt as the years in prison went by. That was Red Baron 1 - must be almost 15 years ago since that game came out. RB2/3D never had the same level of post-career follow-through.

Good idea. I'll see if anything can be done.

Yes sir I am one of those old and twisted RB guys and to confess yours was the very first UOP I installed in RB - TY still have those mods too ;)

Think we can use those video clips somehow?

BTW you recall the bad crash clip/picture of the severe wounded pilot - end of many a great careers for me. :o

Now you mention it I do remember. Those career endings were great! I must admit Red Baron was the inspiration for much of my input into SH3 Commander. I loved the fact that Red Baron didn't merely seek to simulate the air combat aspect. The extra non-combat details (like the capture, escape, hospital, the 'war is over' screen, and the gravestone screen) were what made the game seem more real for me. SH3 Commander's post-career and post-war details are derived (at least in part) from Red Baron's example. For me it makes my commander into a real person, and not just a game avatar.

Beery, is there any possibility of SH3 Commander becoming part of
the official add-on? I'd use SH3 commander more, but I don't like
having to exit SH3, and then reload it to get full advantage of
SH3 Commander's features; so having it become part of the game
would be a god-send for me.

Beery 09-28-05 12:48 AM

I doubt it would be included in an official add-on, but similar things have happened (Ubisoft incorporated a similar config tool for IL-2 FB). I'm not even sure there's going to be an add-on, but I'll talk to Jaesen about talking to Ubisoft.
