If I see it right, there's two things that have to happen:
1) The plane has to drop the torpedo.
2) The T-V has to function as it does when fired.
I imagine adding a torpedo instead of bombs in the loadout would cause the plane to drop the torpedo correctly, aimpoint notwithstanding. The plane will aim for the best possibility of impact. If the targetted boat follows procedure and crash dives, the likelihood of actually getting hit by the falling torpedo is slim.
As for the torpedo functioning properly...
I've experienced misses which came back and hit me in the *ahem* screws. So it is possible for a live torp to continue seeking...the question becomes one of "will a dropped torpedo function as a live torpedo"? Which means we need to find the code that enables torpedoes when launched- the bubble trail, engine noise, and the logic that computes the "life" of the torpedo. If we can determine a "live" torpedo vs a "static" one, we should be able to figure out how to trigger the desired outcome.
