Are the officers and crew created randomly before you start a mission/campaign or is this coded in some file?

When I start a campaign or single mission they will sometimes look all identical (same face, same clothes, no caps). I can change this after I have saved the mission, of course, but I would like to make it so the game assigns a nice variety every time I start a new campaign.

Would be great if there was a utility like SH3Commander wheer you can edit the looks of your crew (shameless hint to talented programmers ;))

It's coded in a file by boat type. See my 2nd post in this thread for details...

Doh! I only thought of the cfg files in the savegame directory. Thanks. I should read more carefully :)

But what about new crew members that you hire between patrols... How are the faces/uniforms/voices assigned for them? Can this be changed somehow?

Probably, but that one i haven't figured out yet. It'd be nice to up the quality of replacements a bit.
