Also, is it me, or does the superstructure look too far aft in game. The superstructure of the victory looks more like a Liberty.

If you saw that silhouette in game would you think victory or liberty?

Slightly OT, but I was looking at info about the Liberty ships and for some reason I pictured them much smaller than this....also I never realized how much STUFF they could carry!...........("The Liberty was 441 feet long and 56 feet wide. Her three-cylinder, reciprocating steam engine, fed by two oil-burning boilers produced 2,500 hp and a speed of 11 knots. Her 5 holds could carry over 9,000 tons of cargo, plus airplanes, tanks, and locomotives lashed to its deck. A Liberty could carry 2,840 jeeps, 440 tanks, or 230 million rounds of rifle ammunition.")......and what, they made some 2000 of them?
I know as a kid, being told by family, that during WW2 they built LST's here in Pittsburgh, then they would ship them down the Ohio river to the Mississipi, then out onto the ocean....LST #1 was made here, and took part in the Italian landings....made it through the war. I was amazed to find out that a few made then are still functioning for some third world countries.........talk about a bad retirement plan! :o

440 tanks??? Wow! That's a lot. Er, I had no idea they could carry so much.

Nopileo 08-04-05 06:50 PM

Yeah the 6-8 tanks on the deck of freighters in SH3 don't exactly give you the impression it could carry hundreds more. Still, most car transports nowadays aren't much bigger, and they carry hundreds of cars...

Der Schatten 08-04-05 06:51 PM

...Yep, even if they were "little" shermans, thats still alot of tanks....I would think they didnt carry all of one thing......one sinking could screw up the entire war effort in Europe....."Sorry General Patton, we lost ONE ship......but can we interest you in 2000 jeeps?". :-?

Just a postscript:http: //www.cascobay.com/history/libship/libship.htm At the bottom of this page is a neat little interactive picture of a liberty ship with cut away views.

I have been spending all my time with SHIII working with the Mission
Editor, making my owen Missions. I have convoys with mostly Liberty ships running the north sea to Russia, and about 1 out of
7 to 10 libertys ships have a red hull. The date is 1941-12-30. Time at
0900

did you evey make a mission with a FW-200 flying aroud 2500 feet above
a convoy very cool you can see AA guns going off and sometime a FW200
will go down! If looks great when you are about 4.5km from the convoy.

Heres a replacement for the red skin.

Just a simple hue change to give a grey skin. I actually use it as my T01 Liberty skin, with the pale grey as 2 and the blue/brown skin as 3, but this will replace the red. Edited one of the other skins to make it, so it isnt drastically different in any way other than colour.

Another option. This will change all the default merchant skins. If you just want the liberty ship skins, look for the tga files named L1, L2, etc, name them to NLL_T01, etc. Sorry for the self promotion.

I'm going to see the Liberty Ship and the Pompenito in San Francisco today! :yep: I'm on vacation just outside of Oakland and I've already seen the Hornet and the S.S. Red Oak, carrier and victory ship. But today it's down to pier 45 to adventure into the world of the Navy. :arrgh!:
