I was reading an article once about how the fixation on penis size and manhood is a recent development.

Back in ancient Greece, testicles were the mark of manhood. That is what made the man.

When the Victorian age came about and photography came into vogue, porn became more popular and since men concentrated on their own penis when using porn, the shift started to focus more on penis size.

Of course Freud was raised in this new consciousness as well.
