I have taken out several task forces in the shallow waters of the Torres Straight, sitting at periscope depth, all stop and just shooting them as they pass. In narrow passages, shipscwill often collide taking evasive action. Risky, perhaps, but I have never been attacked during one of these ambushes.

Use patrol aircraft to scout the area and the mark task force/convoy movements on your map and track them. Perhaps this tactic would work for you in any narrow passage???

Thanks for welcoming me. I would hate to be the one to spoil the fun, being new on posts, but finding the Shokaku was helped by looking up tabular history of her movements and sightings from American submarines. Tell you was after Coral Sea battle and right before Midway battle to find her, of course she wasn't at the battle, and she didn't stay long in Kure. Good luck:up:

In the real war they got a lot of ULTRA messages from the info from the PURPLE codebreakers, but the subs getting the messages found that trying to intercept a task force zigzagging at 25 knots put too much stress on Lady Luck. Everyone wants to sink carriers and battleships but the subs actually contributed more by interdicting the supply lines, and sending them chasing after capital ships was actually a waste of resources. Eventually the brass woke up and started sending them after tankers, since a CV or BB couldn't move without oil sinking the tankers took the capital ships out of the war.

Personally I like that unrealistic aspect of the game though, I ignore entire convoys to find task forces with YAMATO class BBs simply because it's more fun. :woot:
