Alaska has some pros and cons. Low crime, scenic beauty, lots of space, camping, fishing, skiing, rock climbing galore. But the winters can be brutal when you don't see the sun for weeks at a stretch. The cost of living is high since almost all food stuffs have to be shipped in. There is a dividend for residents who have lived there a year, but it doesn't really offset how expensive things can be.

Consider Montana as Alaska lite. :D

^Beg to differ having lived all over the country and driven most of it; Napa CA or any place in New Hampshire will fill your fishing & temperature climate requirements. It can get hot in CA but it's a dry heat and not muggy like mosquito infested Minnesota. Northern CA away from major metropolitan areas, north of the Bay Area to the Oregan border is simply superb with Seattle/Vancouver or Oregon a good second choice.

I enjoy calling NC home! Beach or mountains not a far drive! However, you want to live in the right place.

We have great BBQ.

Texas, too hot, please!!

You should chose the state of denial like most people in the USA. :D

Credit is bottomless, social security will be there for you, bikers are bad, cops are good, terrorists are more dangerous than politicians, there's a difference between republicans & democrats.

Washington (the state) seems to have quite beatiful nature. :)

But Alaska is on the same latitude as Sweden, I don't like hot summers. :dead:

Damn. There go my Texan fantasies.

Might as well stay here. Wouldn't notice the difference :rotfl2:

Don't go forgetting the first state of the US....the UK :smug:

On the other side of the pond I'd choose Alaska, providing I could shack up with a certain female that goes by the name of Sarah

danasan 05-29-15 06:00 AM

Is she still running around there and looking wildly for the state of Africa on the map?

Rumours have it she is running around wildly looking for me :O:

:haha:

You'd better not tell the wife...

On topic:

I'd go for Montana. Shouldn't be too warm or too cold or too overcrowded there, with a lot of environment... a lot ( larger than Germany is with only 1.2 percent of our population ).

Could be hard to make new friends there.

Shoulnd't be too hard. I have a friend from Montana and never even got close to the US.

Buy your self a large RV and become an American Bedouin.

More South in the winter, more North in the summer

Towards the coasts/borders if you want to be around dumb people... Did I actually type that or was I just thinking it? :D
