I am currently addicted to world exploration in this game, it has so many different details to offer, and so many sweet little surprises.

I find the maps to be very generic. Sure there is the little gem here and there (air lift museum near Frankfurt for example) but all in all it's very generic especially the cities.

I agree, the cities are quite generic and they are also a bit... small it seems for something that's supposed to be a city. Although I guess that the city size is to scale considering the map size (maybe). Also the weather patterns get somewhat boring too, it's either clear, cloudy, foggy or raining and sometimes fog and rain at the same time. If they don't add snow and ice for the upcoming Scandinavia dlc I'll be a little disappointed.

Compared to something like OMSI, ETS is rather vague in its geography, but what it does weave together is very pretty.

I am currently addicted to world exploration in this game, it has so many different details to offer, and so many sweet little surprises. Why has nobody told me before? I take that personal! What they told me is "Uh, no hardcore simulation physics, so not for you, Sky." On the other hand I missed two years of bug squashing, 16 patches, and many minor niggles between them, it seems. I have not had a single problem with this game far! None.

A very good miniature railroad world. The buying of Scandinavia DLC is a decided thing, and the American truck title I will also get. But the latter maybe again a bit later.

Honestly I somehow didn't think you'd be into it :D

I agree though - it's just a great little exploration game that doesn't feel like work. Not a study sim by any stretch of the imagination, but very enjoyable.

Of course it is - what did you expect? It is Europe in shrunk-size format. Still, basic geographic features and landscapes get reflected by the style of the virtual copy. I think they did a very good job on this. And the tours are long. Really long.

I LOVE OMSI, and rated it as benchmark sim in several regards, especially sound and vehicle recreation. But the house-for-house recreation of real streets comes at the cost of the OMSI world being much smaller. Also, the general package OMSI comes in, is quite rough around the edges, and this does not seem to have changed in OMSI 2. But if ETS2 does not fit a description of being a round a,d polished product, then I don't know...

The two do not compare, I would say. OMSI is more sim than game, ETS2 is more game than sim, and is a mix of truck driving and management game (lightweight). But the immense success the game seems to have had, shows that the developer did everything right, obviously.

I got myself the heavy duty and the flip colour DLCs. Nice again!

That's pretty well put. :yep: I do like that you can stream online radios while driving too. There's also a multiplayer mod in the works, btw.

Now, they just need a Mad Max mod to simulate a global meltdown and coming apocalypse and that game would be awesome :)

Seeing this thread has inspired me to go back to ETS2 for a bit. Sadly, I seem to have lost the knack of reversing with any finesse. Backing into a tight spot consists of the following:

1: Approaching the parking spot, swing round to get the trailer pointing roughly in the right direction, and then get the cab straightish.

2: Lean out, look back, decide which way I want to push the trailer.

3: Back up 6 feet (or, if on the continent, 2 metres - mustn't upset the Gendarmerie/Polizei)

4: Realise I've gone the wrong way - go forward 6 ft/2 m and try again.

5: Realise that I've now got the trailer pointing the right way, but the cab is now at 90 degrees - move forward and straighten out .

7: Have a long think.

8: Go back 6 ft/2 m, moving the trailer roughly in the right direction, while keeping the cab more or less straight.

9: Go forward 4 ft/1.3 m, to give me more room.

10: Repeat 8 & 9 half a dozen times, until I'm almost backed in, then discover that I'm coming in straight, but offset 4 ft/1.3 m to one side.

11: Point the cab off to the side I want to move towards slightly, and then pull forwards as far as I can, straightening out so I can back in properly.

12: Repeat 8 & 9 yet again until I've finally got the trailer somewhere approximating to the desired spot, pointing in roughly the right direction.

13: Leave the trailer parked askew - if it is good enough for ETS2, it is good enough for me. Neatness is overrated in my opinion. As is worrying about the odd minor bump or scratch when carrying dynamite. And if they insist on putting road signs where they get knocked over, it's their problem. As far as I'm concerned, if the horizon stays horizontal or thereabouts through the whole trip, I've done my job. And if it doesn't, It's clearly the other guy's fault. :03:

This ETS 2 Simulator...

Gets the official Bilge Rats :yeah:

I miss the adventures of the open road and this fills in nicely.
Though getting used to European roads is proving to be a task.:timeout:
I'll definitely be checking out the American version in August.:yep:

This title appears to be expertly crafted.
From the functional demo mode (that gives you a good taste of what is in store and really makes you want it), to the fully functional licensed version.

I've just scratched the surface.
One nice thing is I don't have any trouble spotting trailers.
Just call me Billy Bob. :shucks:

So far I deboarded ferries and train three times in Britain - and three times caused frontal accidents within a minute.

:haha:

Blame it on mechanical problems...

The driver AI can be pretty dumb at times. I wish it better simulated the feel of weight each load pulls about the same and no surge with tankers. However you can skip shift and you can also Jake brake though you never really need to but you can pretend that your using it.

All in all a fairly fun game though. I like driving in the UK sneaky bastards use MPH instead of KMH. You can turn off the limiter too and exceed the 55MPh cap.

There is K-Whopper K-100 mod as well including the dog house.
