Actually more than one Axis ship was sunk by u-boats. In every case the u-boat commander was exonerated. The friendly ship was either in an area where it wasn't supposed to be, or was disguised as an Allied ship to fool the enemy.

I have my 'Neutral' set to '0' and my 'Axis' set to '-1'. I don't get credit for sinking neutrals, but I don't get in trouble for it either, and I only lose a little if I accidentally sink a friendly ship.

Absolutely. I am in no way disputing that. I was hoping for a more quantitative indication. It would be nice to know percentage of total ships or total tonnage sunk. I'd like a way to judge my own performance. If I sink one neutral every ten ships, am I being too cautious? Too aggressive? SH3 doesn't provide any feedback from BdU, such as a real sub commander would receive. I can booger the renown numbers to do whatever suits me, but that doesn't tell me how much (or how little) flak I would have gotten from The Boss for my performance. I imagine the data are all out there, but I haven't found a site that neatly consolidates them. And I'd rather not do the tabulations myself. (:) Just laziness, but I'd rather be on patrol.) Anybody have a reference?

British ships are neutral

Hi all! November 39, i was hit a few british ships but after save (in menu before quit) i saw sunk ships in neutral row. Why? Im playing with GWX 3 mod.

There are neutrals scripted into the early convoys.

Karnivor 01-23-15 12:39 PM

You lose renown unless you've modified the game files

Hi Karnivor, welcome to SUBSIM.

Were they definitely flying the British flag or something like it? British flagged ships after the 3rd Sep `39 shouldn't be recorded as a neutral. Can't remember if ALL the British dependancies and commonwealth countries were enemy at this stage though.

welcome aboard

I spotted an unescorted Small Depot ship in the Pentland Firth in October of '39, it was dark and not moving. Not believing my luck, I made a submerged approach and fired a single torpedo, it hit and began going down. I go take a look at it with the external cam and....IT'S GOT A DUTCH FLAG! I made my IWO sleep on the deck plates for a day.

Could be worse,
Late Sept 39 am cruising west across the north sea, just north of Holland and I encounter a lone merchant coming the other way
its dark so I creep up to check the flag, the 3 stripes are vertical so it's not dutch so I let frenchie have it

Bloody Belgians

The worst is off Gibraltar, those Spanish flagged Large Passenger/Cargo ships look SOOOOO tempting.
