No harm in wishing though :) |

Second that vote, so much history there and Patriot's Point for WW2. Maybe a few of us that deplore yankee aggression could have a southern style Subsim meet. We could reenact Fort Sumter. I know some reenactors that have working cannon. I know I wouldn't mind taking a few long range pot shots at a few members here. |

We could all stay at your house if you would pay to fly us there. Your wife a good cook? |

I'm up to it. We had a mini-meet in my hometown last year, we were only three members, but it was very pleasant and fun to meet them in flesh and blood.
US or UK are fine to me, they have tons of naval attractions and I'd love to invade both again. Quote:

I know this has been mooted before but London, or thereabouts would be great, there are some proper history musea - not just the last couple of hundred years. :O: And Pompey/Gosport is just a couple of hours drive away with HMS Victory, Mary Rose, HMS Warrior, the 112 year old sub Holland 1, the midget sub X24, and HMS Alliance. With Duxford and Hendon for the aviation crowd. Maybe stretch the legs to Liverpool to see the desecrated U-534. . .

The biggest obstacle is the organisational element (many of us are busy in RL) and the fact that you usually get a healthy number of 'yes I'll go' which ultimately dwindles down to less than half for one reason/excuse or another.
Personally speaking I've only been to the one in Houston, organised by Neal in 2008 and that was really something else, meeting Neal, Steve, Jason, Chad, Dan, three Grey Wolves (plus one wife) and too many more to mention. The one in Denmark was one that clashed with my 25th wedding anniversary so no feeble excuse there. A SS Meet is something I would recommend everyone should attend because it is a unique opportunity to meet people in person but that might also be a reason for some people not attending....certainly their loss, not mine. |
If it was up to me, I'd look around for a cheap cruise or all inclusive resort. Last time I went to a forum meet, a few guys ended up puking all over the host's back yard.
Considering that if we don't go in the peak season, cruises are pretty reasonably priced. We can just meet up in texas or florida, hop on a cruise ship, and sail out to see for a week or so. |
I'd vote London, if we had some cheap accommodations. Jim or Herr-Berr's flat:hmmm:. Anywhere in the US would be cool.
If you want to see ships, the Fall River subsim meet up can't be beat. Neal's house would be cool: BBQ:up:, I need some more BB35 stuff, anyway. Seattle/Portland: Bremerton Naval Base, USS Turner Joy, Keyport Undersea Museum:woot:Boeing museum! (Portland)See/ride(?) PT-658,:D, USS Blueback http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/...e988c72421.jpg Evergreen museum (see Spruce Goose:up:) That's what the Northwest has to offer.:hmmm: Quote:
Fall river= http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=173845 If we did it during Portland's rose festival, arranging a ride on the PT-boat would be a lot easier. |
How about we meet in the Ukraine? Then i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone :har:

Surely you don't want to kill her just yet? :hmmm: And am I the only one that sings Fall River - to the tune of Moon River? :hmm2: |

Chicago has the U-505 (but that's it:down:) and USS Cobia ~2 hrs to the north in Manitowoc. http://www.wisconsinmaritime.org/the...nce/uss-cobia/ San Fran has USS Pampanito, Jeremiah O'Brien, and San Fran Maritime museum. ...but it is Kali-fornia.:down::down: Hope you like pan-handlers. |
