We don't rescue and groom rats, thus no pics of you, Wern or Wolferz. I did name one of the dogs after my wife, it's fun screaming at that dog. |
I'd have said that was more a Yubba than a Takeda, but I can't disagree with Jim. :haha:
Mainly I'm a cat person, but if I were a dog...hmmm...probably would have to go with the first dog I can remember: http://www.taliesencollies.com/image...ugh_collie.JPG |

Hate to ruin the fun of the thread. My wife just called with shocking news, the owner plans to put all these dogs down tomorrow.
My wife is enraged. Per my story about the vet that killed himself, his wife was released from mental hospital. His executor was another vet. While we didn't know about payment for taking the dogs, she asked about it and said she would pay. We gave her a big discount and no volunteer charged for time, $900. She became furious. Before the bill the executor said we could find homes and give some away, we did. The big problem, we're told the vet that owned the dogs had in his will if he died to have his dogs put down, but in suicide note he asked us to "please take them." Problem is his nut wife legally owns them and we have doubts about his will, nor do we understand all the legalities of such yet. Long story, but the crazed women and the executor vet says they're coming to get all the dogs left and put them down and he is lying to the woman about what he told us. Problem is we're a business, we can't handle all of this or hire lawyers, just not feasible. However, we are going to give her a full bill in the amount of $2500 and will not release the dogs until paid. We will offer to null the bill in exchange for the dogs. It's my wifes deal, I suspect she'll fight it tooth and nail. The fact is we have homes for several. We plan to call the local news and see if they will show up, maybe shame her. Hopefully we can get some legal advice or find some way to resolve this. From what I'm hearing the wife hated these dogs and her husbands care for them......She is severely mentally ill. Anyway, not sure of all the facts, but wish us luck. I would hope this would be inhumane and can be stopped, but according to vet any owner can legally put their dogs down. They're 17 left out of 24. |
That's a heck of a story Armistead. Wow.
Wishing you and your wife all the best. You're doing the right thing. :salute: |
That's really really sad. :wah:
Hope it works out good... |

Sad news indeed. :wah: I'll add the situation to my ever growing prayer list. I wish the dogs the best of luck and that instead of being put down, good homes will be found for them.

you should try to get a copy of the will more importantly the part that says the dogs where to be put down if only for your own records and to "establish" the legality of the dogs belonging to nutty wife that can buy some time. Also have some type of super long release document made up and have 1 per dog. Its a dirty trick but of course the more hassle you can create as a buisiness the more likely the nut gives up. if the bill amount doesn't stop it.
If he loved the dogs so much i can't see why he would want them put down after his death:hmmm: even though i am really young still I already have a will written and mine dictates that my dog and hermit crabs go to a caring if none of my family can handle them... there has to be a way and the news is a good start. If it could be decided out of court i would have also recommended trying to see if it could be ruled that the wife is mentaly unfit to own or make decisions on the dogs but 1 i am not sure if that is even possible and 2 it would cost money. |
It seems we share more than just subsim video games.
I wish Armistead and wife the best of lucks. I'd be fighting for the dogs well being too. The ones I still have with me are mother and daughter, the male brothers have been placed in good homes already. All saved from the streets. Mother is a German Shorthaired Pointer. She was a stray (I ignore her past) and she passed my house a few times, running scared from everyone, and very pregnant. One night I heard barking and high pitched squeaks at the end of my back yard. I don't have to tell you the rest of the story:D Shortly after, early 2009, my professional life started to go sideways. I could have relocated elsewhere then, to where my skills might be more appreciated. Leaving this new family behind would have left me devastated, so I stayed and tried to find a solution. In vain. It won't be this year I'll heed to Onkel Neal's appeal. Now, it seems my two girls will have a new home soon. If so, I will be relieved from duty, and move on, hopefully before the end of the year, off to a new start. |
Legally nothing much we could do, owner had the right to put down their healthy dogs, some vets won't do it, but plenty will. I don't know about the will, except told now his wife could keep what dog she wanted, put down the rest.
My wife said she is a total nut, trying to give the dogs away before we gave her a bill she asked for. Now she seems to want to prove a point. All we can hope for is that once we present her a full bill she will turn them over. If she pays, she can take the animals and do as she pleases. |
to bad i am in ohio and had the money. i would take 2 more dogs :wah:
|
What a drag. All I can do is hope for the best for both you and them.
