Its funny because is the truth. WTF are these game companies doing? Screwing their own businesses thats what.

Had a very similar experience with GTA4 yesterday, Installed the game via Steam. NP got a Steam account. Took overnight to download because their servers were slow.

Ran the game. "You need a Social Club account to play online."
I don't want one of those.
OK you can play offline but only if you are really sure.
I'm sure
Are you really really sure? You won't be able to save games BTW.
WTF? OK I'll set up a Social Club account.
Fill in form.....(time passes),
OK you have a Social Club account. Now you need a Windows Live Game account.
WTF? I don't want one.
You can save your game if you don't have one.
Bugger!. OK Lets set one up using a lot of BS details.
Fill in form.....(time passes),
To get a Windows Live account, you need to get an XBox Live account
WTF? I don't even have an XBox. Why would I want one of those. Oh there is the option to get rid of that account later.
You get the idea....

I don't.:dead:

In the event you ever have to reinstall the game, it can be done from the disk. You just have to know the procedure. I keep the instructions handy for just such a situation.

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc:

Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

oh you do?

good... follow these steps

1. walk up to him

2. offer a greeting

3. kick him as hard as you can square in the testicles

4. spit in his crying face

5. go home and get a steam account

Actually the person you should be kicking in the nuts is the people who buy and sell used games. These DRMs are pretty useless against pirates (Steam for example is utterly worthless at piracy prevention), but work very well against those dirty scum who dare try to resell games they legally bought, like the wretched human refuse they are. Pirates are just a red herring mate, Yar! :arrgh!:

YAY, we have standardized on one multiplayer platform now. Lets all add each other on steam, or was it origin, xbox/windows live? playstation network?uplay?

crap, we need a new platform.

Although to be honest, I have almost never run into issues with middleware. Not even with steam/gamespy back in the day. In fact, I used to have one account per game. You wanna play me on red alert? Let me see, I have a list of accounts on the right.

At least now, I only have like 6 accounts, and not 1 account per game.
