What do you mean by that? If you like a movie, watch it

Oh, I can answer this question.

So, say a "guy" had a copy of a certain movie hidden in his office. Black case.... so, when no other subsimmers are around, this guy sneaks out his black case edition of.....say....
"Crash Dive"
...and pops it in the dvd player and thoughly enjoys the movie, never, ever, skipping ANY scenes.

That is a guilty pleasure movie.:D

A 'Guilty Pleasure' is something everybody thinks is bad, and you understand that it probably is bad, but you watch it anyway. As I said, I can't think of any Guilty Pleasure war movies I watch, but I have several in other genres. There are some truly great movies that I just don't like, and there are some truly bad movies I have in my collection, and like to watch from time to time. Those are 'Guilty Pleasures'.

Here's an example:

The Outlaw Josey Wales is most definitely not a guilty pleasure, being in my belief one of the best movies Clint Eastwood ever did.

On the other hand I have The Beguiled in my collection. I like it because it's the only movie I can think of in which Clint played the bad guy, and the only one I can think of where he dies at the end, and deservedly so. That aside, it is generally considered an awful movie, and deep inside I agree, but I like it and I watch it.

That is a Guilty Pleasure.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. :stare:

That is a GOOD movie. It isn't a guilty pleasure movie at all.... :stare:

K-19 is not a bad movie. I liked it. I have certainly seen better, but it is hardly bad enough to qualify for guilty pleasure. For me, it is definitely U-571.

Okay...corrected but for what it is worth, I've been told I've seen those movies too much = guilty...thing??? Maybe its my Baptist upbringing?

Anyhow.

Ditto on the Joesy Wales, as I will always stop on that gem. Also High Plains Drifter as you can't beat a horror/western ("this place looks like hell,").

Okay. How about Fifth Element? Love that bastard.

Shoot. I've derailed the snot out of this. Sorry.

Haha! :har:

I still think that nobody has more guilt than a good Catholic.

I'm Catholic and it seems like they are always trying to stick me with something bad I've done. (Not trying to insult anyone...it's just how i see it sometimes)

Dammit_Carl! 03-18-13 08:28 PM

Egad.

And I went and became Catholic.

It's like I like slamming my hands in the door, eh?

THERE I GO AGAIN - AAAIIIEEE!!!

Being Catholic isn't bad....

I'm just saying...they will try to make you feel guilty.....and it will work.... :yep:

You don't know many Jews, do you? There's a reason that "Jewish Mother" is a code word for "guilt maker".

I actually don't know any Jews....I've never even heard that term before.

Never too late to make Jewish friends though! :)

We've derailed this thread majorly....

Sailor Steve 03-18-13 11:26 PM

They created guilt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_mother_stereotype

"Why can't you be more like your brother?"

"My son, The Doctor."

Well, we haven't derailed it too far, since we're still talking about guilt. And there haven't been too many new postings about movies. Still...

Since I mentioned some non-war movies, I'll continue.

Enchanted.
Juno.
(500 Days Of) Summer.

All good movies in their own way, but none of them meant to be enjoyed by a single 60-year-old man. And I own all three. Hence, Guilty Pleasure.

Oh, I also like the first Hulk and both Fantastic Four movies. So there.

Oh, and Crash Dive? I said right off the bat in my thread about it that my whole "Best submarine movie ever" schtick was a joke, and I bought it sight unseen, and the only thing I really wanted to show was the color footage of early Elco 77-foot boats and S-Boats, so Platapus can shut right up and go back to sleep.

Seriously.

I mean it.

Takeda Shingen 03-19-13 05:02 AM

Juno is a pretty good film. I wouldn't consider that guilty pleasure material.

Red October1984 03-19-13 06:31 AM

I have to say that my guilty pleasure movies have to be

Austin Powers
2008's Get Smart
U-571

There are more...but that's for later. :shucks:

Oh I agree. I got free tickets for a sneak preview, and felt pretty odd with two middle-aged guys sitting in a theater full of teenagers.
